Course Description

Mayo Clinic Shoulder Arthroscopy, Arthroplasty & Fractures is an advanced course for orthopedic surgeons treating disorders of the shoulder. The course will include didactic sessions and laboratory experience using cadaver specimens. Live video demonstrations and panel discussion are an integral part of the overall learning experience. This course will teach the principles and techniques for management of rotator cuff tears, SLAP lesions, fractures, instability, and arthritis.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Identify patterns of rotator cuff tearing, including supraspinatus, infraspinatus and subscapularis.

• Diagnose shoulder instability due to both fracture and ligamentous laxity.

• Apply the indications for surgery in instability and rotator cuff tears.

• Differentiate the various surgical approaches for treatment of rotator cuff tears and instability.

• Demonstrate the ability to repair ligamentous laxity, debride arthritic lesions and repair SLAP lesions.

• Formulate an arthroscopic approach to the patient with arthritis, rotator cuff lesions, instability, and SLAP tears.

• Evaluate the patient with shoulder arthritis.

• Employ various surgical approaches for shoulder arthroplasty.

• Describe the appropriate use of the reverse total shoulder technique.

• Demonstrate reconstruction using the reverse total shoulder.

• Describe treatment of shoulder fractures.

The Advanced Techniques in Shoulder Arthroscopy, Arthroplasty & Fractures will be held April 26-27, 2013. Mayo Clinic’s Surgical Skills Laboratory is located in the Stabile Medical Science Building and offers a state of the art learning environment. All of Mayo Clinic campus buildings connect by pedestrian subway and skyway to downtown hotels and businesses.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by Mayo School of CPD before April 12, 2013 ([email protected] or fax#: 507-284-0532). No refunds will be made on or after April 12, 2013. Canceled registrations are non-transferable.

Mayo School of CPD reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event Mayo School of CPD must cancel or postpone this course, Mayo School of CPD will refund the registration fee, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline/travel/lodging agencies.

Travelers may arrange to fly directly into the Rochester International Airport (RST), which is located approximately 10 miles from the downtown Mayo Clinic campus. Access to and from both airports is provided by taxi, shuttle service, and rental car.
