The first step to take if wondering whether to post content on a

business relevant trending topic is to ask yourself:

Is the current affair positive or negative?

Positive Events

• If it is positive, you should spread the message to fans and celebrate. This post should be timely to capitalize on any viral hashtags and trending topics for visibility.

• In the more long-term, you can put in place any actions of our own to join the positive movement and make any learnings (if possible) to apply to our own practices.

• If applicable, long-form content can be created that analyses the impact of the event and how it’s changed your perspective and/or services.

Negative Events

• If it is negative, it does not necessarily mean that you should not post. However, more consideration needs to be given before posting content.

• The number one consideration for posting on current affairs which have a negative light is:Can you help?• Can you give guidance for those seeking advice?• Can you put in place positive actions to move forward?

• If you can help, then post in a timely matter to capitalize on the viral nature of the story - this way you can help more people and if influential enough, can move the conversation to creating positive change through positive action.

• If you cannot help, should you be able to help?

• If you should be able to help but do not currently have the information or capability, a team of passionate people can be put in place to create positive action. Within a week of the trending topic/current affair, long-form content should detail the event and what it meant for your company and its customers. It should focus on how you learned from the event and made a difference.

• If you cannot and should not help, do not post.
