Long shot Long shots are when you can see the whole body, from head to toe, this shot also includes the background, so the audience get a good idea of what’s going on in the scene. N my magazine I could use this to show the background of where my music artist is standing, this might tell the audience more about them, and what genre of music they sing, for example if they are standing in a dark street with graffiti they may more likely be a rapper, whereas if they were on a beach they might be more likely a pop singer, this will help me to attract my target audience. Mid shot Mid shots are from the waist up, this means the audience can easily see the persons face, as well as their body language, and their outfit. I could use this shot type to show of my artist’s costume, which will also help to show the audience the genre of music they may sing. E.g. a rapper may be wearing black, with gold chains, whereas a pop artist may be wearing more colourful or fashionable clothes. Close up

Long shot Long shots are when you can see the whole body, from head to toe, this shot also includes the background, so the audience get a good idea of whats going on in the scene.

I could use this shot type to show of my artists costume, which will also help to show the audience the genre of music they may sing. E.g. a rapper may be wearing black, with gold chains, whereas a pop artist may be wearing more colourful or fashionable clothes.

Close upThis is a shot of the head and the shoulders and shows the emotion of the person by showing their whole face, as well as a slight bit of the background, however usually the background is out of focus, so as the viewer focuses mainly on their face. This shot could be used in my magazine as I may want to portray the emotions that the artist is feeling, also it may help the audiences to feel more connected to the artist.

Extreme close upThis is a shot of certain features of the face, usually either the eyes or the mouth, with no background at all this draws focus to that part of the character and shows emotion, again I could use this shot to show the emotion of the artist in my magazine, but I think this shot would be less likely to be used, as I think a close up may be more appropriate in a music magazines you can see the whole face.

Over the shoulderThis is a shot of someone over someone elses shoulder, this is often used in conversations as it shows the reaction of the other person. Again I probably wouldnt need to use this in my magazine, as magazines tend not to have over the shoulder shots, as they arent really necessary, in a magazine, they are more likely to be used in a film, or maybe a comic, as it gives of the impression of a conversation.

High angle This is a shot of someone from high up, this shot is looking down on someone, so it gives the impression that they arent important, or it could give the impression that they are weaker or more vulnerable. I could use this shot in my magazine if include a sad storyline, a high angle shot would make the artist seem vulnerable, or weak.

Low angle This is a shot of someone from low down, as this shot is looking up on someone or something it makes them seem bigger and therefore more powerful. This shot type may be quite good in a music magazine, as some music artists such as Eminem may be seen as powerful, so a low angle might be good in trying to portray his power to the readers, If I include an artist that could be seen as powerfull I might include this shot to help portray that to the reader

Canted angleThis is where the camera is slanted to the action of the shot, this makes the audience feel unbalanced, or disorientated. I think this shot would be less likely to be used in a music magazine, and is more likely to be used in a film.
