Conventions of ‘Silent House’ – Shot Types To Capture Emotion and Anticipation This scene within ‘Silent House’ and this scene within my trailer ‘PARANOIA’, both use close up and extreme close up shots. These in particular scenes are used to show the characters hiding form the villain. Their emotion and anticipation needs to be captured and the main focus is on them, therefore this is the best shot type to use. Conventions of ‘Silent House’ – Shot Types To Capture Emotion and Anticipation

This scene within ‘Silent House’ and this scene within my trailer ‘PARANOIA’, both use close up and extreme close up shots. These in particular scenes are used to show the characters hiding form the villain. Their emotion and anticipation needs to be captured and the main focus is on them, therefore this is the best shot type to use. As the shot is focused solely on them, the next scene then involves a ‘jumpy’ and ‘on the edge of you seat’ shot. Both films are horror and thriller genre so therefore this is important in capturing and suspense is then built from the audience perspective.

These are also other example of extreme close up shots in ‘The Descent’, ‘The Apparition’ and my own trailer ‘ PARANOIA’.The eyes are key aspects in showing emotion without showing anything else. E.g. The descent shows the characters eyes only and she looks shocked or she’s been a witness to something she did not expect. The Apparition trailer shows emotion by showing the character is upset. I applied this within my own trailer focusing on the characters eyes to show her distress and emotion. Her eyes show she is scared and is in desperate need of help.
