Short Vowels in CVC Words PrintablesI hope you enjoy using these short vowel activities which contain simple CVC words. Encourage children to say the individual sounds of each of word (oral segmenting). For example cat is /c/ /a/ /t/. It helps to place one finger on

your chin as you say each sound, starting with your thumb followed by your second and third finger.

Instructions: Board Games

Required: Dice, counters and game recording sheets

1. Player rolls the dice and moves their counter.

2. Player says the word they’ve landed on and sounds it out e.g. bug /b/ /u/ /g/. It helps to place one finger on your chin per sound starting with your thumb.

3. Player identifies the vowel sound and writes the word on the game recording sheet below the corresponding heading.

4. The player who reaches the finish first wins.

Tip: Laminating the game recording sheets allows children to use an erasable marker.
