• The concept of National Capital Region was mooted in first master plan of Delhi

notified way back in 1962. The aim of the concept was to develop a metropolitan

area around Delhi, so as to divert increasing pressure of population from the

region. The concept was essential in order to protect Delhi's infrastructure from

excessive pressure and a planned development of the region. he National Capital

Region (NCR) in India's name for the conurbation or metropolitan area which

encompasses the entire National Capital Territory of Delhi as well as urban areas

ringing it in neighboring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. With a

total area of about 33,578 km2 (12,965 sq mi), it is the world's largest urban

Janpath is a connecting road between

Connaught Place and Lodhi Garden. It is

best known for the Market which

comprises of several hundreds of shops

on either side of the pavements. It would

be no exaggeration to say that Janpath

Market helps you to capture a part of

the essence of this city with all its

contradictions.

The Janpath Market in Delhi is a great

place for those who choose not to

spend very opulently, are a bit under

budget constraints and yet cannot miss

out on the experience of Shopping in the

nation’s capital. In short it is not a very

up market place, rather you get nice

trendy choiceable items at affordable

prices provided you are dexterous at

dickering.

There are innumerable shops though none

of them are very big ones, only small

stalls and these sell garments, carpets

and a host of other knick knacks.

Located in south of Delhi and near Lotus temple, Nehru place is specimen of India’s

IT potential. One of the most popular commercial areas of Delhi, it houses many

commercial complexes, cinema halls, and thousands of shops and showrooms of

branded and unbranded IT products. Here, you can also see the offices of many

MNCs, including of Microsoft. The place is a busy center and buses from all parts

of Delhi are available for this place. After coming here, you feel IT is a part of day

to day Indian life. Apart from the local shops, you will also find showrooms of

branded products, here. In case you are buying products from local shops or

hawkers, keep the mantra of bargaining in mind

Connaught Place (CP) heart

of New Delhi. CP as largest

shopping and Commercial

areas in Delhi India. The area

is instantly recognizable on

any map of Delhi, being the

big circle in the middle with

radial roads spreading out in

all directions, like spokes on

a wheel. Eight separate

roads lead out from

Connaught's inner circle.

Connaught Place is closed

on Sundays. The central park

of Connaught Place, has long

been a venue for cultural

events, in 2005-006 it was

rebuilt after the construction

of Delhi Metro station below

it.

city. It stands divided into two parts -

South Extension I and South Extension

of the Indian as well as the international

brands outlets in South Extension of

Delhi, India

Frequented by the hip and happening

crowd of Delhi, this market offers

designer wears also. However,

shopping in South Ex, Delhi is a costly

affair. But, if one waits for the annual

sales in this market, then, they can get

most of the goods at reasonable

prices. South Extension Market also

Khan Market, situated in the South Delhi

area, is one of the most chic and classy

shopping markets of the capital city.

Surrounded by the greenery of Lodi

Gardens, it is quite an expensive market

and caters mainly to the high end

customers. The diplomatic community

living in the nearby areas comprises of

the main consumers that continue to

patronize shopping in the Khan Market of

Delhi. The market offers an extensive

assortment of showrooms, which have a

wide variety for choice. Shops include

those of books, electronics, kitchenware,

etc. Then, you have a number of Cafes

there, like Barista, Cafe Turtle and Market

Cafe, apart from the numerous excellent

restaurants. People go to the market, not

only for shopping, but also to taste some

of the most delectable cuisines. Though

the price range is quite high, the service

as well as the quality is also extremely

good.

FINDINGS FROM THE SURVEY SHOULD BE USED TO IDENTIFY NON-HIERARCHICAL COMMERCIAL AREAS IN EACH ZONE. THIS WOULD HELP IN PREPARING AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF NON-HIERARCHICAL COMMERCIAL FACILITIES. UNLESS THIS IS DONE A SOLID POLICY FOR NON-HIERARCHICAL COMMERCIAL CENTRES CANNOT BE EVOLVED.

ALL THE MARKETS THAT WERE PLANNED BEFORE THE PUBLICATION OF THE FIRST MASTER PLAN HAVE A RIGHT TO BE CALLED NON-HIERARCHICAL COMMERCIAL CENTRES. THEY CAN BE IDENTIFIED FOR REDEVELOPMENT IF: • THEY WERE DULY PLANNED BY THE LOCAL BODY

LOOKING AFTER THAT AREA AT THAT TIME. • PROBLEMS LIKE CONGESTION, TRAFFIC

PROBLEMS, SPACE CONSTRAINTS, PARKING, OVERLOAD ON INFRASTRUCTURE AND UNHYGIENIC CONDITIONS EXIST IN THE AREA.

NON HIERARCHIAL COMMERCIAL

CENTERS

HAPHAZARD AND SUBSTANDARD GROWTH

• THEY CAN BE DEVELOPED ONLY IF IT IS FOUND THROUGH STUDIES THAT THE ZONE IS DEFICIENT IN CITY LEVEL COMMERCIAL FACILITIES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF DISTRICT CENTRES IS BESET BY UNAVOIDABLE PROBLEMS. ADEQUATE PROVISION FOR LOW TURN OVER SHOPS AND INFORMAL MARKET SHOULD BE PROVIDED IN THE NEW NON HIERARCHICAL COMMERCIAL FACILITIES SUCH PROPOSED.
