YEAR 10 ASSESSMENT SCHEDULE 2019

In English, students are assessed across the following modes throughout the year: READING, WRITING, VIEWING & REPRESENTING, SPEAKING AND LISTENING. Student performance in assessment tasks, including assessable classwork, will be used to determine grades for the Record of School Achievement (RoSA). Official “N” determination warning letters will be issued where tasks are not submitted, work is judged to be a non-serious attempt at a task, or work is found to be plagiarised.

ASSESSMENT TASK 1: FILM ANALYSIS ESSAY AND LISTENING TASK Part A: Students are required to write an essay based on a film study conducted in class. Part B: Students will complete a short listening task based on an interview with a film maker relevant to their film study. Students’ classwork and active participation in learning activities leading to this assessment will also be assessed. ASSESSMENT TASK 2: RESEARCH PRESENTATION Students are required to complete a Research Presentation based on the topic studied in class. ASSESSMENT TASK 3: EXAMINATION Students are required to sit an internal examination set by the English Faculty. The date of the examination will be notified at least two weeks before the examination period. Outcomes: EN5-1A, EN5-2A, EN5-3B, EN5-4B, EN5-6C, EN5-7D WEIGHTING: Examination 20%

ASSESSMENT 4: FEATURE ARTICLE Students are required to compose a feature article on the topic studied in class. The feature article should be published in a magazine format. Students’ classwork and active participation in learning activities leading to this assessment will also be assessed. Outcomes: EN5-1A, EN5-2A, EN5-3B, EN5-5C, EN5-7D WEIGHTING: 20%, Classwork 5%

All assessment tasks must be completed on or before the due date and students must sign the assessment task submission sheet when handing in their work. Late submissions will be subject to a 10% deduction per school day for five (5) days. Tasks submitted later than five days after the due date will receive a mark of zero (0). To be eligible for the Record of School Achievement (RoSA), all assessment tasks must be completed and handed in for marking and must be the original work of the student. A NOTE ABOUT AMOW: ALL MY OWN WORK Students must complete the AMOW modules and the associated quiz components in order to be eligible for their Year 11 RoSA. Time will be allocated in selected Student Development Lessons (SDL) in Year 10 for the purpose of completing this program. Students will be required to achieve a specified percentage in order to pass each quiz and the program as a whole. Assessment • A student’s understanding of the course can be assessed in several ways including but not limited

Topic summaries • Students are encouraged to prepare topic study summaries for each topic they complete. This

encourages careful re-reading and presentation of notes as a prerequisite for success.o Each topic summary should take up no more than 2 sides of a single A4 sheet of paper.o Students can bring all their own topic summaries into classes, tasks, topic tests and

examinations at the classroom teacher’s discretion.o Topic summaries can be hand-written or typed, but not photo-copied.

Tests or topic assignments • Students should expect some form of assessment at the end of each topic.

Multi-topic assessments • A multi-topic exam or assignments may be administered in place of individual topic assessments.• These tasks will assess skills and understanding across multiple topics• Students will be notified of these tasks at least 2 weeks before the task is delivered

Informal observation • Observations will inform the student’s topic grade rather than their overall course mark.

In Year 10 you will be assessed in two ways.

1. Ongoing assessment of class work: This will consist of assessing day-to-day class work, practical work, homework, assignments, bookwork and computer based activities. Each term you receive a ‘class mark’ which will contribute to your report grade and your ROSA grade. Failure to complete tasks and meet minimum standards may result in an ‘N’ determination for this course. You may be given booklets and worksheets for each topic. Aboriginal Studies Elective Year 9 – Course Outline The aim of the Aboriginal Studies course is to develop an understanding of Aboriginal Peoples, cultures and lifestyles and their contributions to Australian society. This will enable students to be active and informed advocates for a just and inclusive society. Students will develop:

knowledge and understanding of similarities and diversity in Aboriginal identities, communities and cultural expression

Topic 1: Term 1 – Term 2 (50% of course time)

Core Study: Culture & Cultural Diversity in the Contemporary World - Focus: students study the concept of culture and its many characteristics, and examples of

cultural diversity in the contemporary world.

Topic 2: Term 3 Depth Study: Culture & the Media (25% of course time) - Focus: Students will explore the ways in which individuals and groups religious, political or

human rights’ views are represented through the media. Topic 3: Term 4 (25% of course time) Depth Study: Culture & Gender - Focus: students study connections between culture and the roles of men and women,

illustrating gender differences in how culture is expressed and the impact of these differences on societies.

• All assessment tasks must be submitted on or before the due date • Students must sign the assessment task sheet when handing in their work • Late assessment tasks will lose 10% of the full mark per day for 5 days. • After 5 days late tasks will receive 0. • Communication will be made with parents / carers in the event of non-completion of tasks • In the case of an unexpected event which stops a student completing the task on time, a note clearly
