The CP32 MKII is aunique combination of the latest GPS receiver technology and built-indifferential* receiver for accurate positioning plus detailed cartogra-phy; all in a compact design with a 6" large LCD display in TFT col-our or monochrome. For outdoor installation it is recommended to usethe monochrome version.����������� �!"� #$$����%���&���'�����'�������������������

Two units can be connected together forming: ����%�)*��+�! ...one at the chart table for planning and the other at the helm for naviga-tion. Waypoints and routes are transferred from planning to helm via ahigh speed data link.

����$����'((���"%��+�! includes a built-in world chart forrough planning and overview. The choice of chart system best suitablefor the SIMRAD CP32 MKII was carefully singled out to be the �,��$�!�����"%)���-./. The optional C-MAP charts are availableworld-wide at your local Simrad dealer.

���#&�0"&�$��������*��+�! is rapidly becoming the most com-mon system used for navigation and positioning all over the world.Not only for maritime use, but also for land-based applications andaviation. The satellite-based system has been developed and is oper-ated by the US Department of Defence in order to provide an accurateand reliable service, which include a 24-hour global coverage. The GPS system consists of approx. 24 satellites which orbit aroundthe Earth at an altitude of approx. 20,200 km. The satellites transmit perfectly syncronized data. However, depend-ing on the position, the signals will reach the receiver at a slightly dif-ferent time. By adding the measured time difference to the known posi-

tion of the satellites it is possible to calculate the ship’s position towithin a few meters.

�%3�� The CP32 MKII is sealed and does not contain any user serv-iceable parts. Opening of the unit will void its warranty. Touchingelectrical parts inside may cause bodily harm or death. If the unit is notworking properly, please check section 7.7 Troubleshooting. If yourCP32 MKII requires servicing or repair, cal your authorized SIMRADdealer.

The [ENT] key has the special function of opening andclosing for insertion/editing of data. Use the multi-direction cursor key to move around in the chart dis-play, and to place the cursor on the function you wishto change, then select the data by using the alphanu-meric keys or +/- keys.

The menu bar is placed at the top of the screen, and theindividual menus are selected by keying the numbernext to the menu or by using the cursor key to highlightthe menu, and pressing [ENT].

To fit in the complete menu bar across the screen, someof the menus have been abbreviated. However, the lastselected menu will be highlighted, and if it’s an abbre-viation of the menu, then the complete menu title iswritten above the menu bar e.g.:

Having selected e.g. 4:NAVIGATION from the menu bar,its associated menus (sub-menus) will drop down. Key in the number next to the function you wish to callforward, or use the cursor key to highlight the functionand press [ENT].

The menu bar will disappear from the screen at the selection of a function, or by pressing [MENU] or [CLR]key. Besides - if not used, it automatically turns off after 30 seconds.

� For safety reasons, navigation with electronic charts should always be combined with author- ized paper charts.

’Show scale’ can be set ON/OFF in [MENU],[1],[5].

The top line of the chart display (with cursor off) will give you course, speed and ship’s position. With cursor active, the top line will show the cursor position in lat/long, bearing and distance from actual position to cursor position.

The ship symbol indicates the present position on thechart and the pointer informs of the actual true course(course over ground). There is a built-in autohomefunction which automatically move the chart to keepthe ship symbol visible on the screen (with cursor off).

To select ’Cursor’ navigation will require that the cur-sor is active. ’Waypoint’, ’Route’ and ’Track’ naviga-tion will require there is at least one stored in thememory. For further details on the different NAVmodes, refer to section: 4.1.1 Cursor navigation, 4.1.5 Waypoint navigation,4.1.7 Route navigation, 4.1.10 Track navigation.

With NAV mode active, press the GOTO key and: Press [1] to advance to the next waypoint in the route (Route navigation). Place cursor on first position(A) and press [PLOT], then place cursor on second posi-tion (B). Chart reading is now instand-by, and you may in-sert/remove cartridges. To open the drawer belowthe keypad, press the ejectkey next to the drawer.

Place the cartridge in traywith face up and terminalspointing towards the unit,and push the drawer toclose it - make sure itclicks in all the way (to

stay watertight).

The CP32 MKII will now test the data on the cartridgeto see if its valid and free from faults, or it will test ifthere is any data present at all.� If a cartridge is defect, it must be removed beforeyou can exit the display.

When the ’Cartridge status’ display informs that thecartridge is O.K., exit with [MENU].

In addition to the larger boundaries of the world chartthere will be separate boundary lines for the individualcharts stored on the same cartridge.Other chart areas can quickly be reached by:

To obtain a ’cleaner’ viewof the chart details, youcan turn some of the set-tings OFF if they do notcontribute to the clarity ofthe chart area you wish toexplore.The ’Chart detail level’can also help to controlthe amount of detailsshown on the chart. Theadvanced zoom featurewill automatically expandor compress charts for thescale you have selected

and attempt to compensate for missing charts. When-ever a chart is compressed, however, it tends to get clut-tered with details. Choose between five settings:�. AUTO HIGH (default) - compressed charts will displaydepth lines and buoys. . AUTO LOW - compression of charts will occur in two

The value of HDOP (horizontal dilution of precision)expresses “ the quality” of the satellite geometry in rela-tion to 2D positioning and a fixed antenna altitude.

PDOP (position dilution of precision) is equivalent to3D positioning. The values will typically stay between1.3 and 8. The lower the value the higher the “quality” .A poor geometry might produce a value of more than20.

If the preset DOP limit is exceeded (indicated by * inthe position display) it will cause the position updatingto stop until it once again is within the limit.

The navigation program features several methods of navigation.The easiest and most

straightforward mode is to start with Chart/cursor navigation described just below. After getting more acquainted with the unit and having explored the setup functions, you can enjoy the more enhanced features, such as Route navigation or Track navigation.Point 2:Navigation setup is preset from the fac-tory to e.g. ’RHUMBLINE’ navigation mode,

If the unit is totally locked i.e. no immediate responsefrom the keypad, the unit can be reset by disconnectingthe power supply and then starting up again by simulta-neously pressing the three keys: 4 + 7 + PWR while thepower cable is being re-connected. Hold the keys de-pressed for two seconds and then let go.See below ����������������&

If the unit is still ’alive’ but has ceased to respond tonormal operation, you can make a limited master reset. A full reset will erase all data, waypoints, and settings,and restore the basic settings from the factory.

The DC30 is a remote control unit for the CP32 MKII DGPS Chartplot-ter. Both units are identical in size and appearance, so the DC30 can alsobe flat or bracket mounted - overhead, bulkhead or console - as describedon the previous page.

Adjust light/con-trast in screen andbackground lightin keypad via the[PWR] key.

The eject key and cartridge drawer are blinded, and can not be opened on DC30.

A connection cable of 15 meters with two female plugs is supplied withthe DC30. Push the female plug into the receptacle marked ’REMOTE’on the back of the CP32 MKII and the DC30.

The antenna must be placed in a position where tall constructions, steel wires, masts, etc. do not obstruct the view to the satellites. Do not, however, mount the antenna in the top of a mast or tower, as this may de-grade the COG and SOG readings, especially if DGPSis used. Do not place the antenna close to sources of electrical interference, such as radar, satcom, etc. If installing the GPS antenna close to other antennas itmust be placed either above or below the radiation beams. There is full coverage down to 20° below the horizon.

��������� Avoid installing the GPS antenna inside the beam area.

��.� �"9������� 7����������The internal voltage regulator will allow the CP32 MKII to operate nor-mally over the power supply voltage range from 10 to 32 Vdc. Connection between the CP32 MKII and the external power supply is accomplished by means of the supplied power cable, which is approxi-mately 1.5 meters long.

After connecting the cable to the power source, push the plug as far as itwill go into the two pin receptacle marked ’PWR’ on the rear of the cabi-net and turn the plug’s coupling ring clockwise until it makes a click.

The use of longer cable runs, while possible, always increases the likeli-hood of increased interference and decreased performance. Care must betaken when increasing the cable lengths to ensure that proper, adequateand consistent shielding is maintained, that cable of adequate cross sec-tion is used, and that all connections are properly made and protectedfrom the effects of the marine environment.

��.�$�����Warning! A fuse should always be installed to protect the unit. Using a fuse which is not specified for your equipment can cause it toblow the instant the CP32 MKII has been switched on or it will not pro-tect the equipment as intended.

������� - A satellite’s almanac data, is data which determines an approxi-mate lane for satellites in orbit. The almanac data is used by the GPS re-ceiver to find and lock onto the satellite signal. The CP32 MKII has abuilt-in basic almanac.

The science of tide prediction is an exacting one. But,like the prediction of the weather, is subject to vari-ables beyond the control of man. The following sectiondescribes the conditions under which the accuracy ofthe TideTracker may be affected.

In general, the TideTracker is capable of typical accura-cies of ±0.2 feet (height of tide), and ±2 minutes (timeof next tide).However, a number of factors may cause the accuracy

of the TideTracker to be affected. The following condi-tions, either separately or together, reduce the accuracyof the TideTracker:

&������The mathematics of tidal predictions assume moderateweather conditions. However, hurricanes and their asso-ciated winds may cause the tides to dramatically ex-ceed the mathematical predictions. It is not uncommonfor a "storm surge" to cause high tides which are 10 to15 feet higher than the predictions. In these kinds ofsituations, it is best to listen to the weather broadcastsprovided by the National Weather Service on the ma-rine VHF band; the NWS will sometimes estimate theadditional tidal height due to storm surge conditions.

'�����(��Whenever the topology of the coast line is changed, theheight of the tides may also change. These changesmay be man-made (such as the construction of a break-water or the dredging of a channel), or they may becaused by a natural phenomenon, such as the breachingof a barrier beach by a storm, or they may simply bethe consequence of the natural erosion of the coastline.In situations like these, the mathematics of the Tide-Tracker may lose accuracy, because the underlyingmathematics of prediction at the location have changed.

) ##���The best way to get maximum accuracy from the Tide-Tracker is to apply good judgement and common sensewhen using it. In stormy and windy conditions, realizethat the tide predictions may be grossly affected.

Consumable parts such aslamps, fuses, batteries, bearings etc. are not covered by this warranty.

�������� � •Antennas •Transducers •Trawl sensors •Monitors (CRT) •Gyrosensitive elements •Radar magnetrons •Disk drives.These items are warranted for a period of 12 months on parts and labour from date ofpurchase.

����� ��������� is available through authorised service dealers or nationaldistributors world-wide. Products returned will, at the sole discretion of Simrad, eitherbe repaired or replaced free of charge within normal working hours. Freight charges, in-surance, duties or any other costs are the responsibility of the customer.Maximum liability shall not, in any case, exceed the contract price of the productsclaimed to be defective.

� ������������ can be arranged by authorised local service dealers or nationaldistributors upon request. Labour costs for the repair/replacement of the defective mod-ules/parts will be free of charge provided a valid warranty is confirmed. Overtime,travel, lodging, per diem, insurance, duties or any other costs are the responsibility ofthe customer. Additional expenses connected with replacement of transducers such asdry docking, diving and precautionary measures are not covered by this warranty.

�������� This warranty is effective only when warranty certificate or proof of pur-chase and equipment serial number is presented. Furthermore, the installation and op-eration has to be carried out in accordance with the product manual. Warranty liabilitydoes not apply to any equipment which has become inoperative due to misuse, accident,neglect, sea water damage or unauthorised repair. Simrad will not be liable for any loss,incidental or consequential damages whether based upon warranty, contract or negli-gence, or arising in connection with the sale, installation, use or repair of the product.Consequential damages include, but are not limited to, any loss of profit, property dam-age or personal injury.The terms of warranty as described does not affect your statutory rights.
