Shine! DER Showcase 2012
Overview Be part of this incredible day to see what innovative staff and students are doing in their 21st century classrooms! The Digital Education Revolution has provided high school communities with significant access to technology over the last four years. It is the aim of 'Shine!' to celebrate the accomplishment of students and teachers from South Western Sydney Region who have used this technology to enhance learning opportunities. Shine! will include guest speaker Dean Groom, presentations of exemplary student work, opportunities for professional and collegial discussion and informal workshops where teachers can learn from one another.

Anticipated Outcomes Participants will: a) benefit from the expertise brought by our keynote speaker b) examine examples of excellent student work done on the DER laptops c) connect with colleagues through professional dialogue d) learn new skills in the workshops
Research/Pedagogical Basis “It is the way laptops are used in learning that brings about improvements in achievement.” (Silvernail & Gritter, 2007). “It is critical for schools to understand that simply providing each student with a laptop is not enough. For teachers wishing to log this as Teacher Identified hours:

Apply current knowledge and skills in the use of ICT in the classroom to meet syllabus outcomes in the following: • Basic operational skills • Information technology skills • Software evaluation skills • Effective use of the internet • Pedagogical skills for classroom management.

Participant Requirement/Commitment Participants will be required to: Bring a fully charged DER laptop Bring a USB stick with resouces to share Fully participate in each aspect of the program

Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (8:30 am sign on)
Cost: $110.00 Please Note: A minimum of 24 hours notice is needed for cancellation otherwise your school will be charged the full amount. Schools are able to replace the absent person with another on the day.
