ResponsibilitiesAs a charge nurse, I am responsible for both the nurses on the floor and the patient care techs. I am responsiblefor the babies on the unit and in the nursery. At Northside we have a census of 20,000 deliveries a year so Iam proficient in a high paced, high acuity environment in which we care for well and high risk newborns andtheir mothers. I serve as a resource to the floor nurse with assistance with difficult breastfeeding infants, lowbirth weight and premature infants. I care for infants with phototherapy, low blood sugars and transitioninginfants.with well and responsible for babies on the unit and for babies in the nursery.

AccomplishmentsI have been able to develop a sense of teamwork in the nursery and many other nurses have begun to workas a team when infants come in to the nursery for daily weights, blood draws etc. I also detected an infantwith a neonatal abstinence score of 19 who ended up being admitted to the NICU for several weeks. I had aninfant who was displaying a large lump on the side of the face and it was hard to the touch. The infant went

on to have a seizure a few hours later in the nursery and suffered a stroke. I feel I have been both challengedand humbled with my time here and I have learned a lot in a short time

Skills UsedI have a very strong background in newborn and premature infants and the care they require. I have beenable to utilize my experiences from being a lactation consultant from 2003-2008 in the current position andhave been able to help mothers successfully breastfeed and develop plans for premature infants.
