Come ti vest? What are you wearing???

Students have been studying the topic of

‘Clothing’ this semester and have worked on

their dress sense by explaining what they are

wearing in Italian, as well as identifying

different clothing items. The primary classes

have been revising the song, ‘Come ti vesti?’

in Italian and have enjoyed building their

vocabulary around outfits they like to wear.

Students have enjoyed dressing up and

sharing their fashion tips with their friends.

SCHOOL NEWS

The Year 10 camp was based in Melbourne this year, and included an all-day Bible Masterclass and a lecture from the Big

Issue.

14 students were accompanied by Mrs Smithers-Shaw and Mr. Lim, all set for a time of fun, bonding and new experiences.

The Bible Masterclass, run by the Bible Society, offered some interesting and thought provoking presentations on Islam,

the Resurrection and what Christianity actually does for our lives. The students were challenged to think deeper about

their beliefs and the sources of the Bible, in an entertaining and safe environment. Anthony had a particularly fun time,

winning a bag of lollies in one of the competitions!

The evening tested the students’ map reading skills, as they walked into the city attempting to locate some of Melbourne’s

artistic laneways. The invention of the GPS definitely proved to be detrimental to the map reading skills of the Year 10s!

Following a large feed of ‘Grill’d’ for dinner, the students experienced the night lights and sights of Melbourne. Many of

the students were confronted with homeless people approaching them, which prepared them well for the presentation by

the Big Issue the next day. Presented with statistics, practical exercises, as well as a personal testimony by a marginalised

person, the Year 10s were totally engaged for an hour, thanks to the employees at the homeless magazine.

After many kilometres of walking and lots of talking, the Year 10 students were exhausted by the time the return journey,

by train, came to its end back in Shepparton.

Well done and thank you to all the Year 10 students who attended the camp. You were an absolute pleasure to take away.

Hopefully you created some good memories and enjoyed yourselves.

Year 10 Urban Camp

On Thursday 24th August the Yr 12 Biology class visited LaTrobe

University in Bendigo to complete the ‘Getting Into Genes’ workshop as

part of their assessment for Unit 4. Students learnt about DNA

technology that uses ‘Molecular Markers’ to analyse and manipulate

DNA in the Agricultural industry today. They were given the opportunity

to use laboratory equipment to perform various DNA analysis and

manipulation techniques including; Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

and Gel Electrophoresis. Students were also given various scenarios

where they simulated genetic selection of animals and plants to

produce ‘ideal’ offspring with characteristics such as; drought tolerance,

high milk yield, disease resistance, and milk quality. It was a fantastic

opportunity to see the techniques we have been learning about in class

‘in action’. The ‘hands-on’ activities were engaging and the trip was

enjoyed by all.

SHEPPARTON CHRISTIAN COLLEGE IS GOING TO ITALY

Year 9/10 Students Nick Geerling, Heidi Hudson and Beth Kirk are very excited to be taking part in

Shepparton Christian College’s first ever cultural trip to Italy in November. These students will be

joining with Wanganui Park Secondary College, accompanied by Ms Carminati, to visit significant places

such as the famous Colosseum, Cinque Terre, Venice and the Famous Cathedral in Milan that draw in

millions of tourists every year. They will also be learning Italian at one of the sister schools in Florence

where they will develop their fluency and grammatical skills.

The trip will provide a wonderful opportunity to travel, experience a whole new culture and bring back

a wealth of knowledge. Students are fully funding this trip themselves. If you would like to make a

small donation to assist with travel costs, please donate to the office. Any assistance will be greatly

appreciated.

Operation Christmas Child

This year our college will again participate in Operation Christmas Child, a fantastic project

that delivers shoeboxes filled with gifts to underprivileged children overseas. The boxes

from Australia will go to the southeast Asia pacific region including; Cambodia, Fiji, Papua

New Guinea, Samoa, Thailand, Vanuatu and Vietnam. Last year, through the generosity of

our students and their families as well as our staff, we were able to send off 120 boxes. This

is an incredible opportunity to share the love of God with these communities and we are

excited to be part of it again this year.

To help support this cause, students can either collect a box from the school office or

decorate their own A4 size shoe box and pack it at home with their family, or bring in

separate items that can be put into a class combined box. We will be sending a letter

home early next week detailing what items can be contributed. It is important to note that all items must be new.

Each box needs to include $10 to cover postage. If you are able to include this amount with your box, it would be greatly

appreciated however the students will again be raising money to help cover any short fall. A donation box specifically for

postage costs will also be set up at the front office.

All filled boxes can be returned to the school office by Thursday 21 September (last day of Term 3). The school will organise

for the boxes to be sent to Melbourne for distribution.

For more information about Samaritan’s Purse or Operation Christmas Child, please visit the website

Kingdom Day

On Monday the 28th of August, the whole of secondary participated in Kingdom Day. This day was a huge success, involving

guest speakers, music, workshops and team building games. We were privileged to have Ps Ollie Upton and Ps Kareena

Gibbs come and share with us in our two main sessions. Ps Kareena also ran our Leadership workshop. Representatives

from Youth With A Mission (YWAM) inspired all who attended the Mission workshop, whilst Mrs Peric also ran a fantastic

Music workshop. One of the many highlights from the day was Tribal wars, in which teams completed a variety of team

building games and challenges to gain the most points. The Green Team took out Tribal Wars with smiles on their face and

a very competitive spirit. Overall, participation on the day from every student was great, leading to a fun day for all.

Jess Fenby (Year 11)– I really enjoyed Kingdom Day, it was great to see the students pursuing God and worshipping Him

without worrying about their peers. The challenges really made the day more fun and relaxed and the speakers did a really

excellent and engaging talk :D

Gabby Cook (Year 12) - I thought Kingdom Day was a great day!!! It was just like having a youth conference but at school.

It was an amazing day.
