Transcript of She Was There
Company: The VA The VA Medical Centers have recently added women’s clinics. These are clinics that focus on female Veteran’s medical issues only. The Military has been male dominated not only in amount of participants, but in the culture and focus. Female Service Members (SM) and Veterans are coming home with issues specific to their gender. Females have been grouped in with the male population of the Military, but recently the Military and the VA are realizing that the issues facing females are either being over looked, ignored or just not understood. The revolution to create better care for female SMs is just starting. This includes uniforms and gear, and medical and psychological treatment specific the female body and mind. Problem: The focus on females Veterans is just beginning. There has been much research done. This information needs to be disseminated to health care providers and other employees of the VA. They need to understand the differences in female Vets and nonvets and in females Vets and male Vets. Opportunity: There is an opportunity to design the information is a way that helps these employees understand the differences and obstacles to create better care for our female Veterans. The more they know, the more they can help. Solution: The solution is to gather data about female Veterans, female nonveterans and male Veterans. Graphs, charts and other information will be displayed in a poster for the VA offices and an interactive form for the VA website. The information will show the differences between the groups, the obstacle female Vets have and ways VA employees and healthcare providers can help.
