Primary user / origin

Refugees from Mediterranean:

● Afghan - second biggest nationality● 34% Afghans pass through Pakistan

en route to Europe

According to recent Afghan profiling (2016/05):

● Main assistance gap en route - food● 52% travel with >5 family members

Connecting the dots

http://www.slideshare.net/ifpri/ensuring-global-food-and-nutrition-security-the-role-of-europe

Key insights:

● Connecting urban elements (surplus fruits and vegetables, urban vegetable gardens, goods donors) and shared knowledge could potentially help bridge missing links to resources (bicycles, knowledge databases, etc.)

● Healthy food options can come hand in hand with other important approaches for refugee integration.

● Refugee shelters have huge manpower, still the people suffer from the lack of having nothing to do

Page 9: Sharry - Foodtinder for refugees or a smartphone app to get the new community members to mingle with Europeans based on healthy food

How Might We…*:● ... overcome gaps in the access to

fruits and vegetables, curbing waste and augmenting connectedness?

● … combine goals of refugee integration with an increased availability and desirability of healthy food?

● … use the manpower of a refugee shelter to provide for healthier food options?

* Challenge questions developed from key insights identified

sharry’s story

Healthy food means much more than sheer nourishment; refugees want to be actively involved in the food sourcing as it augments self-esteem. One of the most essential nutrition items missing in Viennese refugee shelters is fruits and vegetables. At the same time a lot of healthy food ends in the bin. Sharry is a one stop solution to these problems.

Designed for easy understanding and usage Sharry helps refugees have access to healthy food, while giving them an opportunity to interact with locals.

Sharry is based on the idea of demand and waste allocation of food resources in a city. Excess groceries that would go to waste for insufficient time to eat them, moving places or traveling plans, can be posted online and picked up by refugees in demand.
