Service Learning Book Drive: Promoting Literacy
Attention parents of 8th graders:
The 8th grade service learning project is underway. Please donate gently used
books appropriate for students in kindergarten through 3rd grade.
On April 9th, all 8th grade students will visit Tyler Heights Elementary School.
Each student will present a young child with a book and spend some time
reading aloud to that child.
If you are interested in chaperoning that event, please make sure your
chaperone clearance is up to date. A field trip permission slip went home on
February 25th. You may indicate your interest to chaperone on the
permission slip. Or, you may contact Mrs. Shinn at [email protected].
There is also a sign up genius for chaperones at

Important Parent Reminders:
Students are NOT permitted to ride another student’s bus
If you know your student will be leaving early please send a note
in with he/she and we will give them a pass to come down at the
time the note indicates.
Please do NOT call the front desk and ask that your child be
called down prior to you picking them up, if they did NOT come in
with a note we will be happy to call them down when you arrive.
When coming to pick up your child please be sure to bring your
Maryland State ID, we are required to check this EVERY TIME you
come in the building.
We do NOT allow a student to be released to anyone who is NOT
on their emergency pick-up list, if you would like to add someone
you will need to fill out the proper paperwork which we would be
happy to provide.
On teacher help days, please do NOT drop your child off before
8:35 am, we do not have supervision for them and it will soon be
getting cold outside.
Unless we are given a note in the morning that your child will
need to switch their original transportation for the afternoon we
CANNOT call into classrooms during class or at the end of the
day, it is very disruptive.
If your child is absent from school please send a note to school
with he/she to bring to the main office when they return. Phone
calls are NOT accepted.

Maria Fellers, RN School Nurse
Pam Rex CNA/CMT, Health Assistant
Our Health Room has been busy this month, with between 45-55 student visits per day! Please call the nurse if your student has any health concerns that may impact their ability to learn or that may impact their safety while at school. The Health Room staff is here to help!
Here are a few important reminders from the School Nurse:
Please remember all prescription and over-the-counter medications must be accompanied by a completed Parents Request To Administer Medications at School form. The form is available on the Anne Arundel County Public School website or a copy can be picked up in the Health Room.
If your student is injured and needs crutches, a wheelchair or extra time to get from class to class, please send a note from your Health Care Provider to the School Nurse. We will help ensure that your student can get around the building safely.
If your student is returning to school after a concussion, please contact the School Nurse. The nurse will review the information from your Health Care Provider and work with the school team to help ease your student’s transition back to school.
6th Grade Parents—remember to ask your student’s health care provider for an updated Immun-ization record at their annual visit this year. All students need to have documentation of a Tdap and a Meningococcal Vaccine before entering 7th Grade
Vision and Hearing screenings were performed Oct. 25th for all 8th grade students, as well as any student new to Anne Arundel County public schools. If the screening showed a possible problem or change in your child’s vision/hearing, you will receive a letter in the mail with de-tailed information of the results. Please share a copy of the letter with your child’s health care provider and ask them to complete the follow up form on the back. If you were already aware of this problem and/or have taken you child for an eye/hearing exam, please complete the form and return the letter in the enclosed envelope.
We are here to help all of our Sharks stay Sharp!
