Fun filled learning process
The school will strive to offer world class education that shall lay foundation for building personalities with sound academic
potentials, physical fitness, spiritual strength, emotional balance, and virtuous human qualities like integrity, self-esteem and
empathy. The school will actively pursue a programme that will focus on the development of the whole child addressing
intellectual, physical, emotional and social and cultural needs without ignoring the major areas of knowledge.
BIS aims to offer an educational environment which is challenging and demanding yet supportive and exciting to young learners.
It is a well-known fact that children learn faster in a friendly and enjoyable environment. In an ideal school environment students
would find the learning process as a journey of picnic and pilgrimage. At BIS- Sharjah, each component that contributes to the
fabric of school life is carefully chosen and woven together - the facility, faculty, curriculum, co-curricular and extracurricular
activities, counseling and guidance department etc...- All these factors are integrated meticulously to provide an ambience which
will make the learning process an enjoyable pursuit. A sound educational approach should look beyond the instructional part of
the schooling.
“Learning is something students do, not something done to students!”
BIS seeks to incorporate critical thinking, reasoning ability, effective communication and problem solving skills in a student
centered environment. Children are endlessly curious about the world around them and our teachers will be trained to use this
quality as a tool for expanding their horizon. The quest for opening the doors of knowledge should not end in the classrooms.
Familiarisation of and initiation into the life skills are an integral part of the school life.
A research shows that only 15% of learners absorb information through hearing it, while 40% is visual learners. But 45% learn
best through hands on experience and action (kinesthetic learners)..! So Brilliant will not rely solely on verbal instruction. Our
approach to teaching is activity oriented and skill based methodology tuned according to the different learning styles
(VAK/VARK) of the pupils. We embrace the principle that “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate
themselves throughout their lives”.
The school will take special care to inculcate sensitivity to less privileged in the society. Students will actively participate in
programmers aimed at building awareness on issues like safe and clean environment, global warming, climate change etc. and
to live in peace with nature.
The richly diverse population of UAE will open up immense possibilities for the inquisitive minds of young learners. The school
will motivate the young minds to celebrate the diversity around them.
Faculty
If you are reading these lines, thank a teacher..!
Bricks and mortar do not make an institution. At BIS- Sharjah, we value our most invaluable resource- our teachers. They, in
turn, not only transact the curriculum, but also generate an enthusiasm for learning and a questioning, critical disposition. Our
teachers are actively involved in the extra and co-curricular activities that are penciled into the daily routine of the pupil. Be it
on the sports field, the sphere of publication or debates, teachers take an active interest and share a healthy rapport with the
students. BIS follows rigorous standards for recruitment of teachers and they are given continuous training and orientation
programmes.
It will be meaningless to ask children to adhere to values and ideals when they are unable to identify their teachers as role
models. This reality demands an uncompromising approach towards choosing the teaching faculty.
“The most important quality of an ideal teacher is not what he knows, but what he is.”
CurriculumThe school follows the Cambridge curriculum complemented by the mandatory subjects of UAE Ministry of Education. The
curriculum is scrupulously designed by team of experts to ensure the smooth academic progression leading to IGCSE
programme. Our curriculum allows us to make effective links between subjects as well as enhancing opportunities for
personalized learning. For the primary classes, the school will consider the option of offering Cambridge Primary Progression
Tests and Cambridge Primary Checkpoints. The core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and ICT are given emphasis to
help the children to develop a depth of knowledge and understanding and to gain skills in these areas.
At Kindergarten and primary level, our focus will be on laying a strong foundation in those vital areas which will remain as
bedrock of their learning ability and pursuit for knowledge for rest of their lives. Numeracy, literacy and ICT are the areas
deserving paramount attention from educators.
54
Migration from Other Boards
Our aim is to provide quality learning experience for all children; learning that is structured, balanced, relevant to the child and
related to the real world. Keeping in mind the unique social landscape of UAE, the school has adopted a broad based, integrated
approach to early childhood and primary education. This would facilitate fast settling down of learners who wish to transfer from
other boards of education.
Religious Education-Promoting understanding of beliefs
Quran and Islamic studies will be taught with special emphasis on rules of recitation to Muslim students and Non- Muslim
students will be taught Moral Studies.
While striving to achieve academic excellence, we do believe that examination results alone will not show the true measure of a
school. School seeks to blend the eternal values mankind cherished all through ages and most advanced teaching aids and
methods applied in a modern educational environment to produce a balanced personality.
The School’s religious education policy strives
• To promote spiritual awareness
• To give each child a sense of their own worth
• To develop sensitivity to the needs of others
• To give a sound moral training
• To engender an appreciation of the world around them
Languages
Languages will be taught by native speakers.
Medium of instruction is English. We will adopt appropriate remedial measures to make up the deficiencies, if any, in English
language of those children who wishes to transfer from non- English speaking background to BIS. Apart from English and
Arabic, the students will have a choice of French, Urdu or Hindi as second languages.
Kindergarten
“What we learn with pleasure we never forget”
The Early Childhood Education is a crucial stage in a child’s educational life. The foundations of formal learning are laid in
kindergarten and primary school. These years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for
children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. This is the time when a child develops his cognitive, social,
physical and emotional abilities. BIS recognizes the importance of preserving the innate curiosity of childhood throughout their
primary school life. A child develops more rapidly in the initial years of life than at any other time and deserves most sensitive
and thoughtful treatment from us. Our Kindergarten curriculum is divided into six areas of learning.
• Personal , social and Emotional development
• Communication, Language and Literacy
• Mathematical Development
• Knowledge and Understanding of the world
• Creative Development
• Physical Development
We have made elaborate preparations to welcome our tiny tots to a thematically designed kindergarten.
Parents
Working in partnership with parents---
Parents are always welcome in school, and staff welcomes opportunities to share thoughts and feelings about the way their
children are developing. Research has shown that parental involvement is a key factor in the enhancement of student
achievement and well-being. Students are more likely to be motivated, to improve their performance and to have better
behaviour and social skills when their parents are actively engaged in supporting their success at school.
Education of a child is a partnership between home and school and we would encourage proactive involvement of the parents
in the school life. BIS propose to set up “Friends of Brilliant Intl School” consisting of parents and educationalists to support
school activities.

The School Council
As part of our drive towards higher standards and self-esteem, our pupils are encouraged to discuss and make decisions about
a variety of issues related to do with school. It will be an early initiation in to the decision making process, indeed!
Attendance and Punctuality
If your child is unable to attend school, we ask parents to ring the office before 8.15 am. Or send in a message giving reasons
for absence on the first day of absence. A courtesy note with an explanation of absence should accompany the child on returning
to school.
Illness in School
The school has a qualified nurse and if your child is taken ill in school we will contact you and we ask that at all times the contact
information, which you will be asked to provide, is kept up to date.
School uniform
The pupils of BIS-Sharjah are proud of their uniform. Parents are asked to ensure that their child comes to school appropriately
dressed. In addition to their uniform, children may wear watches, stud earrings but other accessories and jewellery items are not
acceptable. Please remember that haircuts are an important part of your child’s image and therefore, hair colouring, bleaching,
lines or patterns are not acceptable for school.
Facilities
BIS boasts of a cutting-edge infrastructure complete with superb sports and recreational facilities for its students. We have made
utmost efforts to offer an impressive environment as the backdrop of the daily school life. The facilities are designed with
futuristic vision which include
Well stocked library, well equipped Biology, Physics and Chemistry laboratories, fully networked school campus, swimming pool,
gymnasium and fitness club, 800 seat auditorium, multipurpose hall with provisions for indoor games, well laid-out playing
grounds, health and wellness clinic, cafeteria and dining halls, language labs, art studio, media labs, activity halls, books and
stationery store etc.
Beyond CurriculumIn order to develop well-balanced individuals we believe it is important that pupils have opportunity to participate in a variety of
extra and co-curricular activities. At BIS, arts, sports, athletics, literary and cultural activities are woven into the school life with
great care. Swimming sessions under the guidance of professional swimming instructors will be a regular feature of the sports
department. In addition to sessions in PE, the school will offer a number of popular team sports.
The extra and co-curricular activities offered at BIS include drawing and painting, debate and public speaking, literary and
cultural activities, song and drama. In addition, in order to enrich your child’s experience of school, educational trips and visits
will be organized regularly alongside participation in sporting events and competitions. Students will be motivated to participate
in community service. This will catalyze character development and sense of social responsibility.
Art and Music stimulate a totally different part of a student’s intellect and imagination. The school offers training in vocal,
tabla, sitar, sarod, flute, drums, violin, and piano.
ICT training
ICT education starts at Grade 1. The school will offer Cambridge ICT curriculum for the primary years. Wired class rooms and
fully networked internet-ready ICT labs will enable our students to keep abreast of this most powerful tool. Apart from offering
ICT as one of the subjects, BIS will extensively use Information Technology in its instructional methodology.
Counseling
At BIS, our trained counselors will be ready to assist students with the challenges they face, both academically and emotionally.
Tutors and counselors will actively monitor development of the pupil in academic and personal matters. The review sessions with
teacher and counselors will record the achievements and plan a progression route to the target. Teachers will be trained to
provide individual learning plans with a target for efforts and achievements.
Code of Behaviour
The school believes in the adage “catching them doing it right, rather than catching them doing it wrong”. Staff uses an assertive
approach to manage behaviour. When children do not respond to this approach and persist with negative behaviour, they will be
reminded of the consequences and invited to make choice about their behaviour in the light of these consequences.
98
Code of behavior is • Be kind and polite to every one
• Work sensibly at all times
• Behave sensibly at all times
• Do things as soon as we are asked
• Look after all the things we use in school
• Keep our school and ourselves clean and tidy
• Talk to teachers when we have a problem
Homework policyHomework has become a nightmare for both students and parents these days. At BIS, we follow a balanced approach towards
homework. The unhealthy practice of overburdening the pupils and parents with homework has proven to be counterproductive.
But if approached scientifically, homework can be a valuable aspect of the learning process which contributes to the development
of sound and effective study skills. Our balanced approach to home work will help instill a sense of responsibility, self-reliance,
and discipline and time management in the students.
Cafeteria and BIS nutritional policy
A report suggests that obesity is particularly prevalent among the children of UAE and experts put the rate of obesity as high as
50%. Lifestyle-related diseases are also on the rise in our society. “Overweight children are at high risk of becoming obese
adults, placing them at high risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes later in life,” one of the major
causes for obesity among children is unhealthy eating patterns. Children's dietary habits have shifted away from healthy foods to
junk food.
We believe that schools can be effective venues to encourage healthy eating.
In line with its commitment to help develop a healthy mind and body for its students, BIS will make earnest efforts to promote
healthy dietary habit in the campus. The school will ensure that only nutritious snacks and food are offered in the cafeteria. This
policy will be actively pursued within and outside the school with the cooperation of the parents.
Transportation
School offers safe and comfortable transportation arrangement for Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai locations.
