Dear Friends,

The Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society has a unique approach to health care. Our mission is to provide medical, dental and behavioral care for children whose families cannot afford the cost of private care. Through our IWS Children’s Clinic, we treat the whole child; their physical, oral and emotional health. Our dedicated group of Infant Welfare Society members, volunteers, and staff work together to provide services that are connected and integrated.

Since 1916, the OPRF Infant Welfare Society has supported the services provided at the IWS Children’s Clinic through friend raising and fundraising. Thanks to our grant funders, donors, and Infant Welfare Society members, we were able to completely renovate our nurses station and waiting room this year. Our hugely successful events like the Holiday Housewalk and Market and the Tee It Up for Kids Golf Outing provided the Clinic with much needed general operating resources.

On behalf of OPRF Infant Welfare Society and our IWS Children’s Clinic, we thank you all for your support—whether you served on a committee, made a donation of time, talent or treasure or helped support our work in the Clinic. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of children.

Focus on the Whole Child

The OPRF Infant Welfare Society is dedicated to giving children access to quality and affordable health care. Through our IWS Children’s Clinic, we provide medical and dental care while offering access to mental health, nutrition and social work services.

For 97 years, the work of the OPRF Infant Welfare Society and our members has resulted in exceptional care for children. This year we provided quality care in more than 10,000 clinic visits.

Offering a Holistic Approach

The IWS Children’s Clinic is a full-service pediatric health clinic, offering medical, dental and behavioral health services in a medical home model to children. We support the physical and social-emotional well-being of children through a holistic integrated approach to health care that includes a strong emphasis on disease prevention and health education.

Maria’s StoryAt 12 years old, Maria weighed 180 pounds and was failing 7th Grade.Her grandfather brought her to the IWS Children’s Clinic for a routine school physical, as her mother had passed away and her father is in prison. During the exam, Maria told our social worker that she was being bullied at school. The social worker also detected warning signs that Maria had emotional problems in addition to some learning delays.

Immediately following her routine medical exam, Maria received a mental health assessment by our on-site bilingual therapist. Together with the grandfather, they developed a comprehensive treatment plan. Maria began to see our staff dietitian to address her weight issues. Maria and her family began family therapy with our therapist. The Clinic social worker reached out to the social worker at Maria’s school about the bullying and linked her to the Big Sister program. And at Christmas time, Maria received a holiday gift from the Clinic. Today, thanks to the IWS Children’s Clinic, Maria’s life has stabilized significantly.

“I am so grateful for what the Children’s Clinic has done for us. My granddaughter is so much better,” Maria’s grandfather told our social worker on a recent visit.

“We donate to the clinic because we know that 84 cents of every dollar goes directly to providing services to children.”

Our Mission The Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society is a diverse member-driven organization with an abiding commitment to assuring the health and well being of children. Through our Children’s Clinic, the IWS provides the highest quality medical, dental and social services to those who are unable to afford the cost of private care. The work of the Society is powered by dedicated members and volunteers, a highly competent professional staff, generous donors, engaged partners and enlightened communities who share our view that sustaining the health of our children is a critical investment in the future.
