Shape!

• An area that stands out from the space next to it or around it because of a defined boundary or because of a difference of value, color, or texture.

Two different Kinds of shapes

• Organic• Geometric

Geometric Shapes

• The way I like to think of it is shapes I would commonly find in geometry. They typically have straight edges. The big exception to that rule is the circle or oval which is also a geometric shape. Other geometric shapes are squares, rectangles, trapezoids, triangles, etc…

Organic Shapes

• I remember by thinking about them as shapes I would find in nature. They often are unpredictable and would be very difficult to use in math. One famous example is the Nickelodeon splat shape.

Here are some more examples of Kandinsky’s work

• As you look at them there are a few things to keep in mind.

• First Kandinsky loved Jazz music. He would listen to it often.

• He tried to communicate in many of his abstract pictures what the music would look like. So he drew what just pure jazz music would look like, no words, just music and rhythym

To mimic Kandinsky listen to Some music of your choice, as long as there are no words. While you

listen try to create a drawing using basic shapes and lines that

represent that Music.
