Vision:
The faculty and staff of SLAS will do whatever it takes to achieve our vision of preparing students for
success in college and beyond.
The traits of a model SLAS student are:
1) Be an active learner – the Arts provide students with a variety of ways to actively participate in
their learning. Today’s performance is the culmination of the objectives that have been taught
to your student in ARTS (music and dance) class. A multitude of tests and studies show that
students participate in the ARTS particularly music are more academically successful.
2) Become a member in a community of learners. Our students have learned to collaborate and
cooperate together to produce group performances which will make them better team
members, as well as more confident and better communicators. These skills are highly prized
in the adult world.
3) Be a critical thinker – Performing arts skills allow students to think and act on their own – and
become confident in their decision making process. Participation in the ARTS helps students
be creative. It also helps students organized, and multitasking individuals.
4) Become a thoughtful participant in reflection. This is the primary goal for Performing Arts
students. All students have the opportunity to assess their own progress and continue to form
goals to become better in their craft. This is a tremendous life skill that can be used in many
areas.
In conclusion, we’d like to share that the performing arts students of SLAS have a wonderful
opportunity to enforce and fuse the SLAS Core Values into their classes, rehearsals, and
performances as well as into their everyday lives.
As a Performing Arts Student, we are:
Creative Thinkers Confident Individuals
Proficient Communicators Compassionate Citizens
We hope you enjoy today’s performance. We thank each and every one of you for supporting
your student’s performances!
Sincerely,
The Fine Arts Teachers and Administration of SLAS
