It is not too early to plan on attending SOS Fall Migration September 14-23 in North Myrtle Beach (NMB), SC. Mark Hendrickson will gladly sell you the SOS cards for $30. If you wait and purchase them down in NMB, they will cost $35. During Fall Migration on Fun Sunday (September 16) there will be live band concerts. On Fun Monday (September 17) on Main Street there will be vendors and a drawing for prizes. First Prize is $7,500, Second Prize is $2,000, Third Prize is $1,000, Fourth Prize is $500, and Fifth Prize is

$250. The person and club that sells the winning ticket will win $100 each and the person that sells the most tickets will win $100.

You do not have to be present to win and it only takes one (1) ticket to win. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Caring 4 Kids, which is a local North Myrtle Beach Charity and the SOS Charitable Foundation, Inc.

Both charities have benefited from the Fun Monday Raffle. You can purchase your winning (hopefully) ticket from any NVSC Board members. If I don’t win anything I sure hope that a fellow NVSCer wins or sells the winning ticket :>)

Craig was the 2018 recipient of the Richard Nixon award, which was presented by ABSCDJ during DJ Throwdown at Duck’s in early March. In the Spring SOS parade last month, Craig was designated “Parade DJ” and was one of the lead parade units in a golf cart driven by his wife, Heather. Craig’s contributions as a dancer, teacher and coach, competitor, and leader and supporter of numerous shag organizations and events were also recognized in March by his induction into the Virginia Shaggers Hall of Fame.

No, not that Richard Nixon. Richard StringerNixon, Jr. (aka Richard “Beach Party”Nixon) was a shag DJ who was never elected president of the United States, although he did serve as president of the OD Shag Club. Richard was a popular Ocean Drive DJ and the first DJ inducted into the Beach Music DJ Hall of Fame. He lived in North Myrtle Beach and, according to the Association of Beach and Shag Club DJ’s (ABSCDJ), “was tireless in his efforts and service to various charities and organizations in the Carolinas.” DJ Richard Nixon died in 1989.

In memory of DJ Richard Nixon and in recognition of his shag community service outside the DJ booth, ABSCDJ created an award in 2004 to be presented each year to a DJ or DJs who have “performed outstanding service other than deejay service for any group or entity encompassing the shag dance community or the shag and beach music community at large.” Among the 14 prior recipients of the award are Larry and Cindy Black, Butch Metcalf, Steve Baker and David Sessoms.
