Shady Oaks Bulletin November 2013
Shady Oaks Camp ● May 2015 ● www.shadyoakscamp.org
Parents Association for People with Disabilities
Director’s Corner
Howdy all,
This is an extremely busy month indeed! We are in full swing for camp prep.
Maintenance is being done to all the buildings to insure they are safe and read for the
campers and staff when they arrive. The first staff will be getting here the end of the
month so we don’t have much time to get things done. Our camp cleanup day is May
30th from 9am-3pm and we need as many people to come out to clean buildings,
grounds and do some minor maintenance. Please let me know ASAP if you will be
able to attend.
In addition to camp opening prep we have several upcoming fundraisers we need
assistance with. On May 16th we need volunteers to work our poker fundraiser at
Orland Bowl. Our last event made $7,000 so this definitely is a great fundraiser.
Another good upcoming fundraiser is our camp garage sale on June 5th and 6th. Bob
and Sharon Szajkovics have offered to host this years’ sale at their home in Homer
Glen. Volunteers are needed to work Friday and Saturday. If you can lend a few
hours, please contact Bob. More details are in this month’s newsletter.
Well friends, by the time we talk next opening day will be upon us. We have great staff
assembled so this should be another awesome summer! We still have a few spaces to
fill the first 4 weeks so if you happen to know anyone who would like to try camp, let
them know. We may also have a scholarship or two available for first time campers so
tell everyone you know! Oke doke, its back to work for me! Talk to you all soon!
Good Times,
Scott Steele

We want to remind you of our donation box fundraiser. Shady
Oaks Camp will provide plastic donation boxes for parents to place at businesses in their communities. These boxes are
specifically for parents to raise money for camp time.
Fifty percent of all donations collected will go directly to campers’ accounts and
the other fifty percent raised will go towards operating camp. This fundraiser, if done correctly can raise a lot of money for your child’s camp time!
In order to receive the boxes parents must follow the guidelines listed below:
1. Because boxes are limited, parents must have location(s) secured BEFORE they
receive their box. (Good locations include liquor stores, restaurants and grocery stores.)
2. Parents are responsible for checking boxes regularly and sending money to camp. If no money is raises during a one (1) month period from a location, the
box(es) must be returned to camp.
3. Boxes are property of Shady Oaks Camp and must be returned to camp if the
business no longer wants the box at their location or if the parent decides they
would no longer like to participate in this particular fundraiser.
4. This fundraiser will be on going and boxes can be left in locations as long as the business allows.
5. Parents should create a flyer/story about their camper and why they are raising funds to place with the box. Shady Oaks Camp will have some informational flyers
about camp for parents to place with their boxes if they do not wish to create their own flyer.
Camp Garage sale
Bob and Sharon Szajkovics, we will be holding a
camp garage sale fundraiser at their home (14635 Saddle Brooke Lane, Homer Glen, IL 60491)
Friday, June 5th & Saturday June 6th
We need volunteers to work a few hours Friday and
Saturday. If you would volunteer or
Donate items to be sold, please contact
Bob at (708)926-5469 or [email protected].
All proceeds will go to Shady Oaks Camp.
We will be running an exciting new fundraiser this year. With the help of volunteers, we will be constructing a
wishing well/fountain in the middle of camp and leading up to the well will be a memorial brick pathway.
We are partnering with polar engraving to sell engraved bricks for this memorial walkway.
4 x 8 bricks will be $100.00 ($110.00 if you would like a replica mini brick) and can be purchased through the polar
engraving camp website http://www.polarengraving.com/ShadyOaksCamp. 100% of profits will go to support SOC!
By purchasing a brick, you will not only be immortalizing your occasion or loved one, but also be providing much
needed funds to SOC. Bricks may also be customized to include your business logo or other graphic image from a
catalog of clip art.

Misc.
On behalf of The Parents Association for Cerebral Palsy Children and
Shady Oaks Camp we would like to send our deepest condolences on
the passing of Kay Crotty. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kay’s
family and friends during this difficult time. She was wonderful woman
who worked extremely hard to ensure Shady Oaks Camp would
continue to flourish for years to come. Her passing has definitely
affected all of us.
If you haven’t done so already,
and you want your child to attend
camp this summer, please contact
me ASAP with session(s) you
would like. All are filled on a first
come first serve basis. I will do
my best to accommodate but
please remember the only
campers that are guaranteed a
certain session are those who
come for 8 weeks. Also, please
take note. We will be starting a
week early this summer (June
15th) to allow campers to still
attend 4th of July trip.
