A NOTE FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM LEADER

Dear Friends, Thank you for your support of Spring Garden. Our benefit theme, Come Together, is a guiding principle for our daily work at SGWS. Our faculty comes together to teach and inspire our students. Our students come together to learn, work, and play. Our parents and administration come together to support this beautiful way of educating each child which fosters the cognitive, the creative and the social aspects of human nature. Each day, I am inspired by what happens at SGWS, whether it’s observing children acting with kindness, watching parents and teachers work together to meet a child in need, hearing recorder music to start the school day, or seeing the joy as kids move through the halls. Over the past year, coming together has meant some truly amazing things:

Repairing the roof in the east wing of the school Creating a strategic plan to guide us through the next three years Buying a tractor to maintain our garden and grounds Expanding our Early Childhood Extended Care program Launching of a new website Building community partnerships with University of Akron Education Department, U of A

Athletic Department, Earth Faire, Westminster Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Whole Foods

We are grateful for all the ways our parents, alumni, faculty, Board of Trustees, staff, and community supporters contribute to our school and ensure an even brighter future for our school and children. Thank you for ‘coming together’ to celebrate and support SGWS! Warmly,

Tracy Edwards

Administrative Team Leader

NOTE FROM THE AUCTION CHAIR Dear Friends & Supporters, Welcome to the SGWS annual benefit. I am glad you chose to spend your night with us. It will be great fun with friendship and camaraderie. It truly is a time for us to come together and celebrate as a community, and raise funds for our school. I am grateful to all the members of the community that participated in turning tonight into a reality. Without each and every one of you, we would not be here. The annual benefit is the school’s largest fundraising event of the year. Donor participation is critical to provide a quality Waldorf education to our children. Your financial generosity is vital to the future of the school and the education we all so firmly believe in. We encourage you to patronize and utilize the services of the businesses that have so generously supported our annual benefit through advertising, donations and sponsorships. Please remember to thank them. Without this amazing community, tonight could not have happened. Warmly, Jennifer Myers, Auction Chair, Development Committee Chair and VP of the Board of Trustees ...and remember to save the date for next year’s auction on March 22nd. I look forward to seeing you all there!

FUND-A-NEED

HELP BRIGHTEN OUR SCHOOL AND PLAYGROUND!

We are so blessed to own our building set on fourteen acres of wooded property so conveniently located to Akron and Cleveland! Our building and grounds are a vital part of our school and community. The SGWS Site Committee has spent the last several months creating a plan to support the continued maintenance and improvement of our facility. Our Fund-A-Need for this year is for our facility in two important areas: Lighting We are embarking on a multi-year project to update lighting in our school. The ballasts and lights are no longer being manufactured, so we will be replacing them with something brighter and more beautiful! The total cost of this project is about $20,000. Playground Our playground is in need of some TLC. We are planning to add additional mulch and paint and repair some areas of the playground. We hope to raise a minimum of $10,000 toward these two worthwhile needs. Please help us get there!

All of nature begins to whisper its secrets to us through its sounds.

Sounds that were previously incomprehensible to our soul now become the

meaningful language of nature.

~ Rudolf Steiner

99. The Head Table: Priority Service! Get extra time to bid, be the first table served! Value: priceless! Thanks to: SGWS Administrative Team 1. Post and Rung Chair by Class 8 Research concludes that students that study in this chair score higher on SATs than students that don’t study. And that use of this chair enhances athletic performance, relieves migraines, reduces blood pressure, prevents hangovers and promotes marital harmony. While results are not conclusive in this matter, evidence suggests men found grinning in the chair for more than four hours should seek medical attention and be approached with caution. Significant weight loss has occurred while sitting in the chair when accompanied by a balanced diet and exercise. In addition to all the listed qualities, this chair is exemplary of the condition of the students in the 8th grade. It is a genuine and honest piece of work demonstrating their ability and integrity, a product of their own heads, hearts and hands. Author: Frank Vargo Value: priceless! Thanks to: Class Eight 2. SPECIAL THANKS A special thank you to the following people, without whose support, this event could not have taken place. Tracy Edwards and Sarah Rossi for their administrative & board support.

To the SGWS office staff, Amy Hecky, Julie Marchetta and Hazel Emery who went

above and beyond getting everything done.

Elisha West for finding our wonderful auctioneer - Heather Burns

Bill Sandor and Cordell Caley for making check in and out run smoothly.

Katie Greenwald, Parent Council Representatives, and SGWS classes for all of the

thoughtful and creative class projects and baskets.

Debbie McKinney for helping to coordinate all of our efforts.

Marina Rana for showing up at the last minute and staying up very late with me to

help put the entire catalog together, and for being a friend.

Ken, Lydia, London Rose and Daisy Koprowski for making and delivering the tasty

desserts.

I have been a parent at SGWS for almost 6 years now and I cannot imagine my child anywhere else in the world. Even when things are hard, and they sometimes are, I know that the experience my child is receiving here is one of the most amazing gifts I will ever be able to give him. I cannot express enough gratitude to every single person who makes that possible: from the parents to the teachers to the staff to the children. Thank you ALL! Warmly, Jennifer Myers

It is vital that when educating our children’s

brains that we do not neglect

to educate their hearts.
