ONLINE DCOLL21 TRAINING PROGRAMME

(October 01, 2016)

Online Training Programme on DCOLL21 – Digital Library Management

was organized from Pune, for the Library Staff as well as the IT

Department, on October 1, 2016 in Room No. T2. DCOLL21 maintains

both print and digital collection in a single application. Digital Collection

remains integral part of SLIM21. It can accommodate multiple collection

types like Thesis, Lecture Notes, Projects, etc. Mr. Ganesh from SLIM21

software conducted the Training.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SERIES – SESSION 8.

(October 08, 2016)

This session 8 was conducted on October 8, 2016 for MMS and PGDM

(Batch 2015-2017). The students learned about Conflict Management

(Crisis Management) in this session.

JOHARI WINDOW – A WORKSHOP .

(October 9 2016)

Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham called their technique/model Johari

Window model ‘Johari’ after merging their first names, Joe and Harry. The

Johari Window soon became a widely used model for understanding and

training self-awareness, personal development, improving

communications, interpersonal relationships, group dynamics, team

development and inter-group relationships. This model is used primarily

in groups especially in corporate settings as a heuristic exercise.

‘Heuristic’ means enabling a person to discover or learn something for

himself/herself. It helps people understand their relationship with self and

others. Please understand it is very important to have a good relationship

with self; when we are at peace with self we can take precise decisions in

life. It is the foundation of everything in our life. Having a good

relationship with self helps us to improve our relationships with others. A

good self-relationship enhances our capability to value our self as a

person, which helps us to embrace our strengths and weaknesses easily.

Johari Window helps people first to understand them better, and then

improvising their vital relations in life.

Mr. Aseem Hattangady conducted a workshop on Johari window on

Sunday, October 9, 2016. Aseem Hattangady is a Mumbai based

professional Actor, Voice-Over Artiste and Corporate Trainer. Having

graduated from The Film and Television Institute of India, Pune (FTII)

with a specialization in Acting, he began his theatre career with

Nasseruddin Shah in 2009. A lover of communication and languages, he

has appeared in over 25 full length plays, 10 feature films, most recently

being Anurag Kashyap's film "Ugly". He has also lent his voice over skills

to numerous animation films and top brands such as Britannia, Asian

Paints. Besides being an actor and performer, he is also deeply connected

with the corporate world, as an actor and trainer, having conducted

workshops and seminars in communication and leadership skills,

creativity, Change Management and Team Building. Some of the

companies he has worked with include Siemens, HPCL, Sanofi Pharma,

ACC, The Business Standard, The Indian Express Group, Star Union Dai-

ichi, and Shop CJ Network. He uses a combination of management and

theatre techniques to motivate and encourage corporate professionals to

realize their true potential. Most recently, he used the medium of

storytelling as a technique in change management, with successful

workshops still being conducted all over India for companies such as

Schindler, Mahindra Group, Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services

SARAWATI PUJA .

(October 10 2016)

The annual Saraswati Puja was conducted in the Library on October 10,

2016 at 2.30 pm. All the teaching and non-teaching staff members were

present for the Puja and they took the blessings of the Goddess.

AUTHOR’S SPEAK .

It is a trend of GNIMS Library to organize “Author Speak” for the students

of First year MMS / PGDM every year. Such events are an opportunity for

the students to interact directly with the Author instead of a book and

also helps in developing reading habits in the students.

Dr. Varadaraj Bapat from IIT Mumbai, delivered a talk on our event titled

“Author’s Speak”. He addressed the students on “Indian Business and

Economic Models or Self Development”, on October 10, 2016 from 3.00

pm till 5.00 pm.

CA. Varadraj Bhalchandra Bapat has consulting and teaching experience

of 22 years in Accounting and Finance. He has obtained professional

qualifications in Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accountancy, and

Information System Audit before obtaining Ph.D. from IIT, Mumbai. He

was All India Rank-holder at both CA Intermediate and Final

examinations.

He has published a books titled “Investment Analysis and Portfolio

Management” and “Financial Accounting – A Managerial Perspective”

published by McGraw Hill Publishing. He has presented/ published in

national and international conferences/ journals. He has done several

research projects. He has spent a term at Johnson Management School,

Cornell University, New York, USA in 2004.

His interests include Accounting Standards, Corporate Governance,

Bankruptcy Prediction, Portfolio Management, Financial inclusion, Indian

Economic Model, Bharatiya Culture, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad,

education, spirituality, Sanskrit and Yoga.

He addressed the students on “Indian Business and Economic Models”,

on October 10, 2016 from 3.00 pm till 5.00 pm. First year Students of

MMS / PGDM attended the talk by Dr. Bapat. The Session was very

informative and interactive. His expertise on the subject helped the

students in clearing their doubts and learning new things on the subject.

He shared his vast knowledge with them and gave them some tips on

finance and motivated them. Students were delighted to meet the well-

known author and interact, on one on one basis.

DEAR – DROP EVERYTHING & READ” – A NEW INITIATIVE

(October 15 2016)

On the occasion of Dr. A. B. J. Abdul Kalam Birthday and National

Reading Day. GNIMS have come out with a new initiative. “DEAR – Drop

Everything and Read”. It was conducted on October 15, 2016. This event

will be undertaken once a month (15th of every month). Here, everyone

including Director, teaching and non-teaching staff, students as well as

the security personal, will read anything like newspaper, novels,

magazines or journal in our library during the day for at least half an hour.

This initiative was successful as both the full-time and part-time students

participated.

E-Library .

E-Library was inaugurated by Dr. Ambi Parameswaran, a well-known

author in the Library Research Cell, on October 15, 2016.

CMO SERIES 1 – LEARNING FROM THE MARKETERS .

(October 15 2016)

Marketing Club and GNIMS Library organized the CMO Series 1 on October

15, 2016 in the G. N. Khalsa College Seminar Hall. Dr. Ambi

Parameswaran is Brand Strategist and Founder of Brand-Building.com.

He spent a large part of his thirty-five-year marketing, sales and

advertising career in helping build FCB Ulka

into one of India’s biggest ad agencies. An

engineer from IIT Madras and MBA from IIM

Calcutta, he completed his PhD from

Mumbai University in 2012 and the

Advanced Management Program from

Harvard Business School in 2014. Dr. Ambi

writes for various business publications and

has authored and co-authored several

books on topics ranging from brand building

and advertising to consumer behavior and

religion.

Dr. Ambi Parmeshwaran interacted with the students and presented key

trends explored in his new book “Nawabs, Nudes Noodles”. He gave an

overview of the advertising world and

discussed how the advertisements

change the mindsets of the people.

Advertisements also reflect the social

changes happening in the society.

There was a question and answer

session at the end and both the

professors as well as the students

asked lots of questions which were

answered by Dr. Parameswaran.

Students were delighted to meet the well-known author and interact, on

one on one basis. Our MMS Students Ms. Gurleen Kaur conducted the

whole event and the Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Jyotinder Kaur.

BLOOD DONATION DRIVE .

(October 15 2016)

Blood Donation drive was organized by Ms.

Annie Pillai, Assistant Professor of Marketing,

on October 15, 2016 in Room No. G 1 from

09.00 am till 03.00 pm. in association with Sir

J. J. Mahanagar Raktapedhi Hospital. Students

enthusiastically participated in this drive.

It was a huge success as 130 bottles of blood

was collected from students as well as staff

members, which will be useful for the needy

people.

CSR ACTIVITY – GNIMS STUDENTS CLEAN UP KURLA STN

(October 16 2016)

GNIMS business school in association with DIYA Mumbai, organized clean-

up drive as part of Swachh Bharat Campaign on Sunday, October 16,

2016. Volunteers from DIYA addressed the students. Teams were made

and respective areas for cleaning were allotted to them – all Platforms,

Four foot over bridges, staircases, ticket windows, water booths and

toilets.

The clean-up drive kick started at 10.00 am with Mr. Sachin Vishe from

Kurla station cleaning platform No.3, 58 First year MMS Students, putting

on hand gloves and masks took up brooms and got on to cleaning with

great fervor and joy. The enthusiastic group from DIYA did guide the

students with clean up task. NCC Cadets of G. N. Khalsa College of Arts,

Science and Commerce joined in this noble endeavor and actively

participated in the entire clean-up drive.

With inexhaustible energy and vigor, about 75 volunteers comprising

GNIMS Students and volunteers from DIYA, took it upon themselves to

clean Kurla. Students performed a skit on Platform No. 2 depicting

cleanliness awareness among people. By 1.00 pm students collected the

filth in garbage bags and collected it at platform No. 3.

With this CSR Clean-up activity, GNIMS Business School hopes to

encourage people to take up cleanliness as their personal responsibility

and commit to the cause. There were commuters who appreciated the

students work and motivated them to keep up the good work and even

had few random clicks. A special mention of Mr. Vipul and photography

team which included second year MMS HR students Ms. Sonal, Ms. Kasturi

and Mr. Saurabh Jathar who captured the moments all around Kurla

platforms through their lens.

BEING PASSIONATE ABOUT LIFE .

(October 16 & 23 2016)

On October 16 and 23, 2016 a Workshop was conducted for EMBA

Students. It’s important to be passionate in life, because passion gives

purpose in life. Passionate people, overall, do live happier and better lives

than the average individual. Being passionate is not just about knowing,

it's also about feeling. That's what makes passions so important; they

make us realize whether we are on the right path in life and give us hope

for a happy and exciting future. Passion makes us realize that we are here

for a reason. Each one of us has uniqueness, passion allows us to tap into

it. Our uniqueness is a blend of talents, wisdom, strengths, skills, and

creativity. We all have something great to offer, and learning to accept

and own what makes us unique is crucial to sharing our gifts with the

Workshop was conducted by Ms. Semira Khaleeli. Semira is a Soft Skills

& Sales Trainer, NLP Practitioner and Certified Image Coach with 22 years’

experience in hospitality marketing, sales, consulting with India’s blue

chip hotel brands to include the Taj, the Oberoi, the Leela, The Park and

Keys Hotels. Licensed NLP Practitioner (Society of Neuro Linguistic

Programming) and Certified Image Management Specialist (Image

Consulting Business Institute) Founder of Imagination, which offers

training and coaching to individuals and corporate organizations on Sales,

Soft Skills and Image Management.

Viva’s were conducted for the Part Time Courses (MMM, MFM, MHRDM–

Semester V) on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 09.35 am to 12.45 pm.

EXAMINATIONS .

(October 15 to 23, 2016)

Exams for the Part Time Courses (MMM/MHRDM/MFM) for Semester III

and V were conducted from October 15 to 23, 2016.

Exams for the Full Time PGDM Trimester IV were conducted from October

10 to 21, 2016.

Exams for the Full Time MMS–Semester III were conducted from October

24 to 26, 2016 and from November 4-5 2016.

ISO Re-Certification Visit was done on October 25-26, 2016 in the GNIMS

Admission Cell. Mr. Joglekar and Mr. Mittal were the Auditors.

DIWALI LUNCH .

(October 26, 2016)

GNIMS celebrated Diwali with all the teaching and non-teaching staff

members having Diwali Lunch together. All of us wore our traditional

dress and enjoyed our lunch together.

GNIMS EMPLOYEEES Co-OP CREDIT SOCIETY LTD .

(October 26, 2016)

The first dividend of the society was announced and distributed to each

member on October 26, 2016. The dividend amount was Rs.1500/-, which

was distributed to the members by our Director Dr. Bigyan P. Verma. Ms.

Kuljeet G. Kahlon, chairperson thanked all the members for their support

and also requested all to encourage their colleagues to become members

of the Society.
