MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT

SGBC partners with Snack Pak 4 Kids A sleeve of crackers. Pop-Tarts. Sunflower seeds. Juice boxes. Each week, these items and other non-perishable foods, are placed in sacks and taken to children in need through Snack Pak 4 Kids. The organization partners with various groups, including SGBC, to provide sacks of food to children who likely would have little to no food to each during the weekend. SGBC volunteers of all ages regularly work to pack and distribute food to more than 125 students per week in neighboring South Georgia Elementary School and South Lawn Elementary School. The need is increasing. The church in January voted to boost its missions giving to the Snack Pak 4 Kids program to cover the rise in recipients. SGBC desires to show children and families the love of Jesus by participating in this effort to alleviate local hunger. Snack Pak 4 Kids began in 2010. It now serves more than 4,000 children in school districts throughout the Texas Panhandle.

The Church is the only institution ever created for the sake of non-members. The purpose of the Church is not to serve ourselves with more and better programs. Our purpose, like that of Christ Himself, is to seek the salvation of the lost; to go beyond our borders with the Gospel. The Lordship of Christ motivates a Great Commission Church in this world-sized task. He commands, “Go and make disciples of all the nations.” He does not offer the “great suggestion” or the “great advice.” He, our Lord and Master, hands down the “Great Commission.” Like soldiers into battle, we must obey our Commander! A Great Commission Church is also motivated by love. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” When we fully comprehend His sacrificial death, His miraculous resurrection, and His

imminent return, we will naturally overflow with obedience to the Great Commission. Love compels us. A Great Commission Church is also motived by lostness. Christians are like starving beggars who have found a storehouse of bread. Beggars show other beggars where to find bread! The world is hopelessly, helplessly, hungry. Our neighbors, indeed the nations, must be directed to the only source of grace and goodness. South Georgia Baptist Church is a “Great Commission Church,” pressed into service by His Lordship, by love, and by lostness.

SGBC MISSION STATEMENT

THE GREAT COMMISSION

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father

and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

— MATTHEW 28:18-20 (ESV)
