Club. It was well attended with many representatives from local media, arts and social justice organizations, including representatives from MeDemocracy Day, GenWhy, Submedia, Raincity Chronicles, Destroy Seous, Te yee, Hive Writing Group, CJSF and Rabble to name a few.

More than 170 people danced under blacklights and live twitter feedsto the music of DJs Arctic Red, MOD, EpiD3MIK and G3N3R4L. Tliveblogging theme had people writing on the walls and on each other aMedia Democracy Day was on hand to make buttons for all participan

Tanks to an art rae, sponsorships and good buzz about the event, we raised a lot of money for OpenMedia.ca and club initiatives. Special

thanks to all of our sponsors, including the Simon Fraser Student Socie(SFSS), the Faculty of Arts, Communications and echnology (FCA) Advocacy SFU, R &B Brewery, and all of our media sponsors for suppoing the event.

Also a huge thanks to our volunteers, our artists Aaron Kelsh and Simo Wall, the DJ’s, all of the representatives from local organizations whocame out, and of course to everyone else who attended, making it a bigsuccess!

REMIXOLOGY is a new monthly se-ries of talks/networking events put on by Fresh Media, a Vancouver-based projectof OpenMedia.ca that celebrates andstrives to enable innovative and indepen-dent media and journalism in Canada.Te rst of these events took place at theW2 Storyeum Salon in August, and wasso successful that it sold out…twice.

Te topic: “oward Cooperative Media: How CanProfessional and Citizen Journalists Work ogether?”Setting the stage for some serious remixing of media,W2 simultaneously displayed some amazing pieces of art as part of their 1st Annual SURGE Festival of Ur-ban Digital Culture. Yep, it looked the way it sounds.

Attended by journalists from Rabble, GranvilleMag, Media Democracy Day, the yee, the Geor-gia Straight, Vancouver Is Awesome, and more, the

August REMIXOLOGY series got media profession-als, citizen journalists, and other social-change makersto share new ideas and put a new spin on Canada’smedia system.

Even before sta and volunteers from W2 and Open-Media.ca nished setting the stage for the event, people had begun to wander in and begin talking andtweeting about fresh media innovation.

Once Kris Krug, acclaimed local photographer andsocial media expert, began his talk, the passionately

media-savvy crowd was more than ready to take inwhat would come. Kris shared his photos from a recenttrip to the Gulf of Mexico to cover the BP disasterthrough EDxOilSpill; the sight was so simultane-ously beautiful and sinister that most were unable tolook away.

Oh yeah – REMIXOLOGY hosted a live witter con-versation to stimulate dialogue within the venue andto open it up to those who couldn’t be there in person.

From coast to Canadian coast, members of the public will madetheir voices… er… tweets heardusing the hashtag “#remixology”. A live feed of the tweets was projectedon a screen in the main speakingarea, soon making prominent twit-terers the talk of the town.

Finally, there was an opportunity for participants to do a "collabora-tor's callout". Each attendee wasinvited to give a 30-second intro-duction to a project they had inprogress that was relevant to the

group.

Te remainder of the evening wasspent networking and sharing ideas– this was a party with a purpose.Tough the questions weren’t allanswered denitively, not one guestleft the event seeming anywherenear uninspired.

REMIXOLOGY Rocks Vancouver with Thirst-Quenching Media Innovation

On Noveber 6th, 2010, in collaboration with Media Democracy Day,Open File, W2 & the VancouvCommunity elevision Association (VCA), Remixology 3 wifeature an interactive dialogue with CBC’s Steve Pratt on thefuture of media.
