Yesterday I had the opportunity to host the 252 nd Police Academy Class. Aspartof their 8 monthtraining, they spend a day in the community learning the culture andinteracting withstakeholders. We focusoncommunity engagement, explaining howessential the partnership isbetweenthe policeand the community.
They had a great experience aswe had themgive out “blessing scamawarenessbags” inChinatown, followed by passing out Public Safety Awarenessinformationabout a recent sexual assault inthe Ping Yuen. Inthe afternoon, half of the classwent toHydeand Lombard Streetsfor anhour and passed out “ParkSmart”informationto the tourists, warning themabout autoburglaries, and the other half went toFisherman’sWharf and wasprovided anoverviewof the Wharf by TroyCampbell. We completed the day by a debrief at Central Station. I wasimpressedwiththisclassand I lookforward to receiving a fewofficerswhenthey graduate inNovember.
