Creating a Food Safety Culture
According to Yiannas ( 2008), it is about creating a Behavior-based food safety & quality management system (FSQMS):
i. Is Management committed to creating food safety & quality awareness?
ii. Are employees washing their hands and wearing gloves before handling food? etc.
Food Safety Culture = Food Safety team dynamics of how to integrate food safety into the organization
culture and on how to continuously improve it

Reasons for failure???
11/10/2014
14
DEMING: “85% of the problems are management-related since they are responsible for the system”
SENGE: “Conventional methods are not [fully] equipped to deal with dynamic complexity”
CONTI: “Organic (rather than mechanistic) are the best management models, but still culture is required”

Quality is the “soul” of the organization
Quality is Not a Foot-note, Not Anymore:
TQM is a management discipline in its own right
Quality is Real:
Control charting helped Japan outsmart the U.S.
Quality is Not a Threat, it’s a golden opportunity:
We work with finance, operations, marketing etc.

Our Greatest Challenge!
SINHA
“The UN has ranked Canada as #1 country in the world to live in on many occasions in the 1990s. We don’t have any proof
it has got anything to do with the Quality Movement”
Why? Because most of these surveys are based on Productivity and Competitiveness

TQM and Global Trade
Every organization must at least have a Quality Policy
As we embrace diversity via global interactions, there should be a direction towards one method of progress: through a Quality Management System
There should be a move towards a Quality Culture that aligns all sectors and players of the economy
Let’s write the Codex Qualitas to facilitate Global Trade
Quality Cycle should reform or replace Economic Cycle, not just for the benefit of Global Food Trade, but also for the sake of health and wealth of other sectors as well
