Tips for Protégés • Be affirmative about where you’re

• Create clear expectations from the beginning of the mentoring relationship

• Have multiple mentors for different aspects of your life… i.e. business, marriage, finance, etc.

• Never ask for money from your mentor

• Don’t waste a mentor’s time – physical presence, lengthy e-mails, lengthy telephone conversation, irrelevant talks when meeting, etc.

• Ensure a constant feedback on tasks, counsels, advice, etc. given to you

• Continuously evaluate what you’re gaining versus your set goals

• Occasionally give to your mentor

– Not necessarily something very big and expensive but what is useful and presentable to the mentor e.g. books, CD/DVD, Souvenirs, etc.

So please, take it from me: no matter how incredibly

smart you think you are, or how brilliant, disruptive or plain off-the-wall your new

concept might be, every start-up team needs at least one good mentor. Someone,
