Cut the strap in half to create two 22”-long straps.

Position one canvas rectangle on a fl at work surface. Position one outer rectangle wrong side down over the canvas. Position the remaining outer rectangle right side down over the fabric stack. Place the remaining canvas rectangle over the fabric stack; generously pin the perimeter through all layers.

Align the lining rectangle edges with right sides together; pin the perimeter.

Install the standard presser foot onto the machine. Set the stitch length to 2.5mm. Using a 1⁄2” seam allowance, stitch the fabric-stack short side edges and lower long edge. This is the outer bag. Repeat to stitch the lining rectangles.

Position the outer bag on a fl at work surface. Manipulate the bag to align the side seams with the lower-edge seam (2).

Using a sewing gauge placed along the side seam, measure 11⁄2” from the corner, and then draw a line acrossthe triangle (3).

Stitch along the drawn line, and then trim the excess fabric to 1⁄2”.

Repeat to box the remaining outer corner and each lining corner.

To mark the strap placement, measure 3” from one side seam along the outer-bag upper edge; pin through the upper two layers (4). Repeat to pin-mark the bag-front and -back upper edge 3” from each side seam, creating four pin-marks.

Position one strap along the bag-front right side, aligning the bag and strap

raw edges and the strap ends with the pin-marks. Position the remaining strap along the bag-back right side, aligning the strap ends with the pin-marks; pin, making sure the straps aren’t twisted (5).

With right sides together, place the lining bag inside the outer bag. Align the side seams; pin. Make sure the seam allowances are folded in the same direc-tion from the outer and lining bag lower edge to the upper edge.

Pin the bag upper-edge perimeter. Stitch the upper edge using a 1⁄2” seam allowance, leaving a 4” opening between two handles on the bag back for turning. Turn the bag right side out through the opening. Push the lining inside the bag. Press the bag upper edge, turning the opening edges 1⁄2” toward the wrong side.

Beginning at one side seam, top-stitch the bag upper edge using a zipper foot and a 3.5mm stitch length, closing the opening edges with the stitching. e

From the laminated cotton, cut three 10”x12” rectangles for the out-side, inside and pocket.

Fold the pocket in half widthwise with wrong sides together; finger-press the fold. The fold is the pocket upper edge.

Position the pocket over the inside rectangle right side, aligning the lower edges.

Using a pencil, draw a vertical line across the pocket width 21⁄4” from the pocket right edge. Draw another vertical line across the pocket width 2” from the previous mark. Draw another line 11⁄2” from the previous mark. Draw another three lines at 1” intervals from the previous mark.

Position masking tape pieces along the pocket, aligning the tape right edges with each mark (1). Erase the pencil markings.

SEW IT

Stitch along each pocket divider line, backstitching at the stitching beginning and end. Follow the masking tape edge to ensure a straight seam. Remove the masking tape.

Fold the ribbon in half widthwise. Abut the fold and the pocket right edge, positioning the ribbon upper edge along the pocket fold. Stitch along the ribbon fold to secure (2).

Position the outside rectangle over the inside rectangle with right sides together, sandwiching the pocket and ribbon.

Stitch the rectangle perimeter, using a 1⁄2”seam allowance and leav-ing a 4” opening along the upper edge for turning.

Clip the corners, and then turn the organizer right side out. Poke out the corners using a point turner, chopstitck or knitting needle.

Fold the batting in half widthwise. Mark the center; unfold. Measure and mark 7” from each side of the center mark.

Center one fabric strip right side up vertically over the batting; use temporary spray adhesive to secure.

Scrap HappyFinding just the right color and print combinations is often overwhelming. Try these ideas when searching through your fabric stash for easy color combinations.

• Gather a collection of 10 to12 fabric scraps in a variety of colors and prints. Cut the scraps into strips according to the provided measurements. Place all the scraps into a bag. Without looking, pull one fabric scrap out at a time and piece them in the order pulled (A).

• Select five or more fabrics from the same fabric line. These fabrics can be ran-domly placed but will look complementary in any arrangement (B).

• For any holiday, select fabric in prints and solids that contain a similar seasonal motif. Let the fabric tell the story of the season and make a table top extra special (C).

• Choose several black and white prints with two solids to make a striking state-ment. Black and white prints add visual interest while the solid colors provide a place for the eye to rest (D).

• Look for a variety of prints and solids in neutral colors, such as grey, cream, blue, black and white, to display the beautiful subtlety of a monochromatic color scheme (E).

8”x12” sheet of coordinating or contrasting felt

Double-sided fusible web

All-purpose coordinating thread

Removable fabric marker

Press cloth

Seam roll (optional)

White & coordinating card stock sheet (optional; for gift tag)

Hole punch (optional; for gift tag)

String or twine (optional; for gift tag)

CUT IT

Download the “cheers” or “thanks” template from sewitallmag.com. Print the chosen word and roughly cut it out.

Adhere a piece of fusible web to the felt rectangle wrong side using the lowest iron heat setting, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Generously pin the word to the felt right side; cut out, leaving the fusible-web paper backing intact (1).

From the outer bag fabric, cut one 12½”x14” rectangle and one 2½”x12” rectangle for the handle.

From the lining fabric, cut one 12”x14” rectangle and one 2½”x12” rectangle for the handle.

SEW IT

Download the Tag Template at sewitallmag.com; print onto white card stock. Cut out the tag front and back.

Cut one circle slightly larger than the front and back tags from coordinating card stock. Sandwich the coordinating circle between the front and back tags; glue each tag in place to secure.

If desired, straight stitch around the tag circles several times for a decorative accent.

Punch a hole in the tag upper-edge center. Insert twine or string through the hole, and tie the tag to the handle.

Write your name on the tag after “from” and the first recipient’s name after “to.” Insert a bottle of wine or sparkling cider into the bag and let the gifting begin.

Pass it OnAttach a gift tag that lets the recipient know that the bag is meant for regifting.

Place the lining on a flat work surface with the wrong side facing out and the seam centered. Pin the handle ends ¾” above the upper raw edge at each bag side; stitch (4).

Place the outer fabric right side up with the long edges running horizontally. Remove the felt-word paper backing. Center the felt word on the outer bag; fuse using the lowest heat setting and a press cloth (5). Straight stitch or free-motion stitch the word to the outer fabric.

Fold the outer fabric in half lengthwise with right sides together and the first letter of the appliquéd word as the lower edge.

Stitch the outer bag per the lining bag, boxing the corners and folding the upper edge toward the wrong side. Turn the bag right side out; press.

Insert the lining into the outer bag with right sides together, aligning the seams. Pin the upper edges; stitch, extending the handles beyond the bag upper edge. e

(Tip)Instead of using a seam roll, insert a

paper towel roll into the bag rectangle to press open the seams.

(Tip)To reveal the lining fabric along the bag upper edge, fold the outer-bag upper

edge 1¾” toward the wrong side after stitching.
