A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
As we continue to build a bridge,
I would like to update you on two
important beams within the
bridge; first, Holy Cross School,
and second, our Faith Formation
Program.
Last week I met with a group of parents, faculty,
and parishioners for a series of listening sessions
with candidates for the principal position at
Holy Cross School. Following each meeting
with a candidate, I received helpful feedback
from those who participated. I am now praying
over all that I heard and will soon recommend
one candidate to the Catholic Schools Office. I
will recommend the one who is best qualified to
lead and help grow Holy Cross School.
Over the past few weeks, we have created a new
Faith Formation Program under the leadership
of Mary Toot. Mary has extensive experience in
faith formation and education. Mary will direct
this program for Holy Cross, Our Mother of
Sorrows, and St. Charles. This joint ministry
will be made up of Family Intergenerational
activities, Religious Education, Summer Camp
programs, Sacramental Preparation, and Faith
Enrichment experiences. I am pleased to share
that the following faith formation leaders will
serve our joint catechetical program: Stephanie
Hubbel, Cindy Lammes, Elizabeth Cilano,
Donna Jacobi, and Jill Kinsella. To reach a
member of our Faith Formation Team, please
call: (585) 6638000, ext. 1
In our School, Faith Formation Program, and
CYO, the safety of our children is our top
priority. Following the health guidelines related
to COVID 19 and all of our Safe Environment
polices is our primary focus.
May Our Lord bless us as we continue to rely on
him and cling to his Holy Cross.
May Mary, Our Mother of Sorrows, guide us to
follow the instructions of her son.
In Christ,

Dear Faith Formation Families,
We hope you and your loved ones
are healthy and safe and we want
you to know how much we
appreciate your patience during
this stressful and uncertain time of
Covid19.You may have noticed
some important changes in our
Eastern Greece/Charlotte
Parishes.Fr. William Coffas has taken on the
responsibility of two Parishes and will now be Pastor of
both Our Mother of Sorrows and Holy Cross! Fr. John
Firpo will continue as Pastor of St. Charles Borromeo. All
three of these Parishes are slowly opening with restrictions
in place, following NYS and CDC protocols.
Due to the many changes, challenges, and uncertainties of
what school and family life will look like in the future, the
three Parishes of Holy Cross, Our Mother of Sorrows, and
St. Charles Borromeo have decided to work together on a
joint Faith Formation experience! In doing this, we will try
to preserve the traditions of each Parish while embracing
new ways of passing on the teachings of our Catholic Faith
to our children, teens, and families! As you know, our
20192020 Faith Formation and Sacramental year was cut
short due to Covid19.We are currently making plans to
complete preparation and reception of the Sacraments of
First Communion and Confirmation as soon as possible.
We hope to serve you as a Team and we want to help you
grow your faith through Faith Formation (Family
Intergenerational, Religious Education, and Summer
Camp) programs, Sacramental preparation, and Faith
enrichment experiences. We will be in contact as our
planning progresses and we look forward to walking in
Faith with you and your family!
God Bless,

Pray for the deceased, especially:
Ouida Burke
Do What Needs to Be Done
A friend recently confided in me that although he prayed
frequently each day and was involved heavily in his
parish, he did not sense much fruit coming from it all and
was left feeling unsatisfied. I assured him he was not
alone. I told him of a deceased pastor of mine who had
spoken frequently about being in
this type of situation. Even as a
priest, he knew all too well of how
we can feel like we are simply go-
ing through the motions. It is
precisely at those times that continuing to pray and
practicing good stewardship is most important, because it
would be easier to simply take a break and risk never
coming back. He liked to say, “Do the drill,” meaning just
do what needs to be done.
We are all called to be mature disciples who answer the
call of Jesus Christ regardless of the cost. We cannot
choose when and where the call will come. We cannot
schedule our stewardship in a way that is always most
convenient for us. Even when the fruits of our faithful
efforts seem hidden from us, we hold to the promise that
we are never called to give of ourselves for nothing. God
is working through us and in us. No matter how dry the
land may seem, seeds are being planted to yield a harvest
greater than we can ever realize. Stay strong and do the
drill!

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading WIS 12:13, 1619
There is no god besides you who have the care of all,
that you need show you have not unjustly condemned.
For your might is the source of justice;
your mastery over all things makes you lenient to all.
For you show your might when the perfection of your
power is disbelieved;
and in those who know you, you rebuke temerity.
But though you are master of might, you judge with
clemency, and with much lenience you govern us;
for power, whenever you will, attends you.
And you taught your people, by these deeds,
that those who are just must be kind;
and you gave your children good ground for hope
that you would permit repentance for their sins.
Gospel MT 13:2443
Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying:
“The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who
sowed good seed in his field. While everyone was asleep
his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat,
and then went off. When the crop grew and bore fruit, the
weeds appeared as well.
The slaves of the householder came to him and said,
‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field?
Where have the weeds come from?’
He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’
His slaves said to him,
‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot
the wheat along with them. Let them grow together until
harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
“First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles
for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
He proposed another parable to them.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a
person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of all

Confiteor
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and
sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my
words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault, through my most
grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary everVirgin,
all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Responsorial Psalm Continued

For you are great, and you do wondrous deeds;
you alone are God.

You, O LORD, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in kindness and fidelity.
Turn toward me, and have pity on me;
give your strength to your servant.

Prayer to St Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness
and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you,
O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven
and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son
of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all
things were made. For us men and for our salvation he
came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was
incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our
sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered
death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in
accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come
again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his
kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who
proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father
and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken
through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and
apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the
forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection
of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
Memorial Acclamations
We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your
Resurrection until you come again.
OR When we eat this bread and drink this Cup,
we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.
OR Save us Savior of the World. For by Your Cross
and Resurrection You have set us Free.
Holy, Holy, Holy,
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God of Host,
Heaven and earth are full of your Glory,
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,
Hosanna in the highest.
Gospel Continued
the seeds, yet when fullgrown it is the largest of plants.
It becomes a large bush, and the ‘birds of the sky come
and dwell in its branches.’”
He spoke to them another parable.
“The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took
and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the
whole batch was leavened.”
All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables.
He spoke to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been
said through the prophet:
I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what
has lain hidden from the foundation of the world.
Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house.
His disciples approached him and said,
“Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
He said in reply, “He who sows good seed is the Son of
Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of
the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is
the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as
weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at
the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels,
and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause
others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into
the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding
of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the
kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
