We recommend that funds be placed at the disposal of the Board of Agriculture in England a nd Scotland, and of the Vet erinary D epartment of the Privy Council in Ireland, for the preparation of commercial tuberculin, and that stockowners be encourag ed to test their animals by the offer of a gratuitous supply of tub erculin and the gratuitous services of a veterinary surgeon on certain condition s. These conditions shall be- ( a. ) That the test be applied by a veterinary surgeon. (b.) Th at tuberculin be suppli ed only to such owners as will undertake to isolate reacting anima ls from healthy one s. (c. ) Th at the stock to be tested shall be kept und er satisfa ctory sanitary conditions, and more especially that sufficient air space, ventilation, a nd light be provided in the buildings occupied by the animals. 16. lYe recommend that the Board of Agriculture in Engla nd a nd Scotland and the Veterinary Department of the Privy Council in Ireland undertake the circulation among agricultural societies of instructions for the proper use of the tuberculin test, with explanation of the significance of reaction, and direc- tions for effective isolation of reacting animals. SEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF VETERINARY SURGEONS AT BADEN-BADEN, 1899. In accordance with the resolution of the Sixth Int erna ti onal Congress of Veterinary Surgeons, held at Berne in 1895, the seventh Congress will take place at Baden-Baden in the year 1899. The veterinary surgeons of Baden are entrusted with the carrying out of the arrangements. With the consent of an international meeting held at Stuttgart in June 1896, they have formed a c ommittee of management , which has resolved to hold the Congress in Baden-Baden in the first half of August 1899. The programme is as follows :--- (a) Precautionary me:isures against the spread of epidemic diseases in consequence of international tra de in animals; (b) The prevention of tuberculosis among domestic animals and the use of the fle sh and milk of animals suffering from this disease, and, connected with this, the latest demand s for an e ffe ctual meat inspection ; (c) The prevention of foot-and-mouth disease; (d) The prevention of swine fever ; (e) The forwarding of veterinary science, especially by the erection of institutions for experiments in diseases, and by founding chairs of comparative medicine in colleges for veterinary surgeons;

SEVENTH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF VETERINARY SURGEONS AT BADEN-BADEN, 1899.

In accordance with the resolution of the Sixth International Congress of Veterinary Surgeons, held at Berne in 1895, the seventh Congress will take place at Baden-Baden in the year 1899. The veterinary surgeons of Baden are entrusted with the carrying out of the arrangements. With the consent of an international meeting held at Stuttgart in June 1896, they have formed a committee of management, which has resolved to hold the Congress in Baden-Baden in the first half of August 1899.

The programme is as follows :---(a) Precautionary me:isures against the spread of epidemic diseases in

consequence of international trade in animals; (b) The prevention of tuberculosis among domestic animals and the use

of the flesh and milk of animals suffering from this disease, and, connected with this, the latest demands for an effectual meat inspection ;

(c) The prevention of foot-and-mouth disease; (d) The prevention of swine fever ; (e) The forwarding of veterinary science, especially by the erection of

institutions for experiments in diseases, and by founding chairs of comparative medicine in colleges for veterinary surgeons;

(f) Conclusion of the work of drawing up of a common nomenclature in veterinary medicine;

(g) Official veterinarism. This programme may be altered or supplemented if generally desired. In the proceedings, besides the German language, English and French will

be permitted. Arrangements will be made for the immediate translation of all speeches and reports.

In consideration of the great expenses connected with the Congress, the fee for member:; is fixed at M 12 (= I 2S). For ladies who wish to attend the congress, ladies' tickets will be issued on application, price M6 (= 6s).

Every member, even if unable personally to be present in Baden-Baden, will receive copies of all publications of the Congress, including the general report. The sale price of this report, which the members will receive free of charge, is fixed at M I 6.

Arrangements for rooms for members of the Congress will be made by a lodgings committee in Baden-Baden. The Committee is already in a position to state that those who take part in the Congress will be able to find board and lodging from M6 per day. The town of Baden-Baden has undertaken by arrangement with the Bad committee to provide special entertainments and festivities for the members.

The Grand-Ducal Government of Baden and the Chancellor of the Empire have generously made a considerable grant towards the expenses of the Congress.

Dr Lydtin, Geheimer Oberregierungsratb, Lichtenthalerstrasse, Baden­Baden, will be happy to give any further information which may be desired.

The Filiale der Rheinischen Creditbank in Baden-Baden will act as treasurer.

CONGRESS OF THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF

PUBLIC HEALTH.

18TH TO 23RD AUGUST 1898.

A Conference of veterinarians will be held in connection with the above Congress, at 10 A.M., on Friday, the 19th August 1898, in the Examination Hall of Trinity College, Dublin, with M. Hedley, Esq., F.R.C.V.S., Chief Veterinary Inspector, Irish Privy Council, as President.

Subject for discussion:-TUBERCULOSIS IN ITS RELATION TO PUBLIC HEALTH. Having regard to the far-reaching character of this subject, a series of papers bearing thereon will be brought forward for consideration.

It is hoped to obtain the co-operation of all important bodies, societies, and associations connected with the breeding, rearing, and general treatment of animals susceptible to the disease, as well as of those especially mterested in the production of food, such as meat, milk, etc.

It has been decided, in connection with the Congress, to hold in all four sections and four conferences. There will also be a hygienic and bacterio­logical exhibition, held in the Royal University Buildings, from August 18th
