A Quick Journey Through the Bible

Many people want to read the Bible because they know it is God’s Word, but give up because it is so complicated. The Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible study program helps you to get the “big picture” of the Bible by showing how fourteen narrative books of the Bible tell the complete story from Adam and Eve to Christ and the Church.

In this study, presenter Jeff Cavins will show you how to read the Bible so that you can actually understand it. Aided by a unique color-coded Bible TimelineTM Chart that arranges the key people, places, and events of Scripture in chronological order, Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible will help you discover the story of salvation history and understand how you fit into God’s plan.

The 8-session Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible study program includes video presentations that explore the twelve time periods of The Bible Timeline Chart.

LIFE TOGETHER

Dear Friends:

Here we are, approaching the end of our summer, and as in the past- it's my turn to write a letter to you in place of our pastor. Fr. Tom has taken some well earned vacation time and so I am going to try and live up to his bulletin "briefings!"

Wow! What a spring and summer we have experienced! As I have said so many times, who would think, in our time of technology and modern day science, we would experience a pandemic that has truly changed our lives in various ways? Although I look back and see some voids in what my family was used to, I also look at some positive changes we have accomplished.

Our family has realized how precious our time is together, and we never know when that opportunity could be taken away from us. We see where we can visit with neighbors outside, keeping social distancing, and enjoying more of what we didn't know about each other. My husband and I have more time for praying together, cooking together and often play Scrabble, our favorite board game. Staying at home affords us much more time together!

As I write this letter, it is my hope that children will once again be in our school, brightening our campus. The school and Learning and Growth staffs are working hard to provide a safe environment for your children to return to their classrooms. I think the children also look forward to being with their friends and learning from their beloved teachers.

As I read the first reading for Sunday, I kept coming back to, " Come to me that you may have life." During this pandemic, sometimes we have won-dered why is this occurring ? When can we return to "normal"? It has been quite hard to come up with a clear answer, and then try to answer a child who may ask that same question? As I tell my grandchildren, only God can give us the tools to make this vanish? So every day, let us ask Him to show our physicians, scientists, all of us-the way. Let us go to Him so that we may " have life." Let us submit ourselves, body and soul, to our Lord, knowing that what He gives us in return is the best of the best. Give this challenging time we are experiencing to God....and He will surely show us the way.

May you and your families continue to grow in your faith! We as a parish are here for each other.

Christ's Peace, Denise

Bulletin Article

Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

By: Deacon Jeff Easley

We have heard many times now, on successive Sundays, Jesus teaching us in parables. This teaching method seems to have worked well since 2,000+ years later we’re still reading them! We’re reading or hearing parables that, in our time and culture most of us don’t have a direct connection to. How many of us would go out into a field with a shovel and dig, thus finding a treasure that we can relate to the Kingdom of Heaven? We have to “filter” the parable to relate something in our lives. Instead of digging in a field, we go to the office, or plant, or school, etc. How can we find a treasure there? We will find it in other people. In our friends, colleagues, and strangers alike can we find a treasure? A treasure in which we see the face of Jesus? When we see the face of Jesus in those whom we interact with we will indeed have the treasure and a glimpse into eternity. Recognizing that others were created in the image of God and are temples of the Holy Spirit is the treasure. The Kingdom of God begins in the here and now for those with eyes that see, and ears that hear. Peace to all, and stay safe

We welcome the following child to our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism: Gianna Maria Vitteri, daughter of Daniel and Lacey Vitteri.

How does Stephen Ministry work? A trained Stephen Minister is matched with a person experiencing a life crisis. The Stephen Minister then meets with the Care Receiver to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support.

He/she usually provides care to one person at a time, meeting with that person once a week for about an hour. Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education.

Who are the Stephen Leaders? Stephen Leaders establish and direct Stephen Ministry in a congregation. Together with the clergy, they build awareness of Stephen Ministry within the congregation and community, recruit and train Stephen Ministers, meet with potential care receivers to assess their needs, match care receivers with Stephen Ministers, and provide Stephen Ministers with ongoing supervision and continuing education.

Why par cipate in Stephen Ministry?

Congregations receive a practical and powerful way to respond to Christ’s commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12 RSV). Pastors have a team of gifted, trained, and committed lay caregivers ready to minister to hurting people. Laypeople nurture and use their gifts in meaningful ministry, growing spiritually as they serve others. People who are hurting have a compassionate

companion—a caring Christian friend who provides emotional and spiritual support.

Prayer for Hurricane Season O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen.

Did You: Move? Change email address? Change phone numbers? If you answered yes to the above, please call the parish office to make sure you information is up to date. (753.7950)
