A devastating fire gutted the famous Catholic cathedral Notre Dame in Paris , France. Firefighters battled for hours to try and stop the blaze amid fears the entire structure could be toppled. Dramatic footage showed the centuries-old spire crumbling after being severely damaged by the inferno . The fire had eventually been stopped and the main structure saved . As well as the historic structure, the cathedral was home to dozens of priceless artefacts, including the reputed Crown of Thorns worn by Jesus during his crucifixion.A human chain of emergency service workers carried this and many other items to safety.

manufactured by the students for a Formula Hybrid 2019 event . The

Kolkata port (Kopt) creates historic cargo handling record in FY 2019 The Kolkata Port Trust created a record by handling 63.7 million tonnes of cargo in 2018-19. This was a nearly 10% growth over the 57.9 million tonnes handled in 2017-18. With this performance, KoPT is now ranked the 5th largest port in the Country as far as cargo handling is concerned. The port of Kolkata is also the second fastest growing in the Country. KoPT surpassed the 8 lakh TEU mark in container handling in 2018-19. The cumulative figure for KoPT was 8.29 lakh TEUs. “The 11.6% growth is impressive at a time when the average across Major Ports is only about 3%. New Initiatives such as calling of cape-size vessels with deployment of floating cranes at Sagar and the Sandheads, large scale capacity addition and focus towards quicker turn round of vessels and on faster evacuation of cargo from docks enabled KoPT to achieve this milestone.

Land-sea freight route connects China’s Chongqing, India A new land-sea freight route was launched on 10th April, linking southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality and India. A freight train carrying 25 containers will departed from Chongqing on and stop at Qinzhou port in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Freight such as auto parts worth a total of over 8 million yuan (about 1.2 million U.S. dollars) will then be transported by sea to India within about 20 days. The new route is part of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, a trade and logistics passage jointly built by western Chinese provincial regions and ASEAN countries under the framework of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity. With Chongqing as the transport hub, the corridor uses ports in Guangxi’s Beibu Gulf to reach ports in ASEAN countries and links China-Europe freight trains from many western Chinese cities before heading for Central Asia, South Asia and Europe.
