Setting  up  BrowZine™  on  your  iOS  or  Android  Device  with  the  BrowZine  Pairing  Service

BrowZine  allows  you  to  use  your  iOS  or  Android  device  for  seamless,  convenient  and  fast  browsing  and  current  awareness  of  scholarly  literature.    Your  institution  utilizes  the  BrowZine  Pairing  Service  to  enable  off-‐campus  access  from  these  devices.    To  learn  how  to  setup  BrowZine  Pairing  Service,  please  follow  the  instructions  below.

If  you  would  rather  watch  a  video  of  this  process,  you  can  find  it  here:  thirdiron.com/pairing

Step  1      Download  the  App  from  the  iOS  or  Android  app  store  by  simply  searching  for  “BrowZine”.    It  will  be  a  free  download.

Step  2      Open  the  app  and  select  the  appropriate  institution  from  the  list  provided  by  either  searching    or  scrolling.

Step  3  The  next  screen  will  have  your  institution’s  logo  and  will  indicate  that  you  need  to  use  BrowZine  Pairing  Service  for  remote  authentication.    Tap  “continue”.

Step  4    After  a  brief  loading  screen  you  will  be  prompted  to  login  or  sign  up  for  a  BrowZine  Account.    If  you  already  have  a  BrowZine  Account,  perhaps  from  signing  up  for  one  on  the  web  at  BrowZine.com,

you  can  simply  login  here  and  skip  to  step  #8.    If  not,  please  tap  on  “Sign  up”.

Step  5  A  BrowZine  Account  requires  an  email  and  password  that  you  create.    We  recommend  using  a  work  email  to  ensure  you  can  access  that  email  from  WITHIN  your  institutional

network  as  that  will  be  required  to  complete  the  pairing  process.

Step  6  Confirm  this  email  when  it  arrives.    This  screenshot  shows  confirming  this  email  on  an  iPhone,  but  you  can  also  confirm  at  a  desktop  computer.

After  you  see  the  confirmation  screen,  simply  return  back  to  the  BrowZine  App.

Step  7  Back  within  BrowZine  the  screen  should  update  to  indicate  that  your  account  is  confirmed  as  shown  here.    Tap  “Continue  to  BrowZine”.

Step  8    Depending  on  if  you  are  using  a  device  within  the  wi-‐fi  zone  of  your  institution,  you  will  see  one  of  two  screens  next  as  shown  in  Steps  8A  or  8B  below.

Step  8A    You  are  within  the  Wi-‐Fi  of  your  institution  and  if  so,  BrowZine  will  notify  you  that  the  pairing  is  complete  and  you  can  continue  on  to  use  BrowZine!    In  this  case,  you  are

all  set  and  just  see  Step  12  for  information  about  seeing  how  much  time  remaining  you  have  before  you  need  to  pair  your  device  again  with  the  institutional  network.

Step  8B      You  are  setting  this  up  from  off  the  institutional  network  and/or  your  institution  may  not  have  a  WiFi  zone  you  can  use  with  your  personal  device.    In  this  case,  this  second  screen  will  be  presented

allowing  you  to  pair  by  email  by  clicking  on  the  white  button.

Step  9  You  will  receive  a  second  email  that  is  a  pairing  confirmation.    This  email  MUST  be  clicked  from  within  your  institution  –  either  on  a  desktop  computer  or  by  a  device

connected  to  the  institutional  wi-‐fi  to  prove  that  you  are  associated  with  this  institution.

Step  10  The  link  in  the  email  will  get  you  to  a  page  asking  you  to  sign  in  with  the  BrowZine  Account  you  recently  created.    You  can  click  this  link  from  your  mobile  device  or  from  a  desktop

computer  so  long  as  that  device  is  within  the  IP  range  of  your  institution.

Step  11  If  you  are  indeed  within  your  institutional  network  you  will  get  a  confirmation  that  your  device  is  now

paired  and  you  can  return  to  BrowZine.      Return  to  the  BrowZine  app  and  click  the  red  “try  again”  button.    BrowZine  will  recognize  that  you  completed  the  pairing  process  and  let  you  in.

Step  12    You  can  always  go  to  the  SETTINGS  tab  within  BrowZine  to  see  how  much  time  you  have  left  in  the  pairing.    Pairing  starts  out  at  90  days,  so  if  you  just  completed  this  you  now  have

89  days  left.    Once  this  time  expires  you  will  be  prompted  to  re-‐pair  your  device  again.  Alternatively,  you  can  avoid  this  by  periodically  using  BrowZine  (just  launching  the  app)  within  the  institutional  Wi-‐Fi  if  possible.    This  automatically  will  bring  you  back  up  to  90  days.
