Organising a workspace
SELECTING A WORKSPACE
FirstofallyouneedtoidentifyasuitableworkspaceforrunningeCraft2Learnprojects.Thiscanbeanexistingclassroomoradedicatedspace.Theroomwillneedtoaccommodatethenumberofstudentstakingpartintheprojectatanyonetime.
The room will need to have enoughworkspace to accommodate all of thehardware with enough electric powerpoints in suitable locations around theroom.
The room should also have suitablestoragetoaccommodatetheelectronicsandcraftresources, materialsand toolsaswell as a safe space to store and/ordisplaythestudentsprojectwork.
ORGANISING THE WORKSPACE
Theworkspaceshouldbeorganisedtoprovideaworkstationforeachgroupofstudents.Thiswouldneedtoconsistofatableorgroupoftablesthatarelargeenoughtoaccommodateallthetechnicalhardwareaswellasprovidingenoughspaceforstudentstoorganisecraftandelectronicsmaterialsandresourcesandusethetools.
Wherepossibleeachgroupofstudentsworkingonaprojectshouldbeabletosittogether, ideallythey shouldbeable to sitarounda table rather than in rowsas thiswill encouragecollaborativeworking.
Each workspace will require its ownpower supply, therefore care needs tobetakeninpositioningtheworkstationsto avoid or minimise running powerextensioncablesacrosstheroom.
We would also recommend that eachworkstationalsohasawastepaperbinasthiswillhelptokeeptheworkspacestidyandminimisethemovementofstudentsaroundtheroom.

Setting up the group workstationsEachgroupworkstationwillneedtobesetup,thisrequiresyoutofirstconnectingthetechnicalcore,thenaccessthedigitalplatform,thenfinallytoconnecttheArduinotoenableDIYelectronics.
CONNECT THE TECHNICAL CORE

OTHER TOOLS MATERIALS AND RESOURCES
WhilstparticipatingineCraft2Learnprojectworkthegroupsofstudentswillneedtoaccessarangeofothertools,materialsandcomponents includingDIYelectronics toolsandcomponents,crafttoolsmaterialsandresources(pleaserefertotheequipmentlistsearlierinthisdocument).Theredifferentwaystoorganisethis.
Youcouldsetupeachworkstationwithakitprovidingthemwitheverythingtheyneedtohandexceptforper-hapsthecraftmaterialsasitwilldependontheirprojectswhichmaterialstheyrequire.Theadvantageofthisapproachisthattherewillbelessmovementaroundtheroomtocollectequipmentandstudentswillbeinapositiontostartimmediatelyandbeabletoworkatafasterpace,packingupattheendofasessionwouldalsobequicker.Howeverthisapproachwouldrequiresomestorageateachworkstationand largeenoughworkstationstoaccommodatethekitswithoutclutteringthetabletopsexcessively.
An alternative approach is to have all supplementary tools, materials and components stored around theroom.Thishastheadvantagethattheworkstationscanbekeptclearerasstudentswillonlygathertheitemstheyrequirewhentheyneedthemhowevertherewillbemuchmoremovementaroundtheroom,potentiallyaffectingthepaceofprojectworkandmoretimewillberequiredtopackawayattheendofeachsession.
