– and shortly after was the realisation that the infrastructure was not in place to support our needs.

With help from staff and students we started to plan, design and manufacture our own charging posts.
These are all stainless steel construction with 3kW 1phase outlets and electronics to show on charge/off charge .

Motor Vehicle student Bruce Whelan took up this opportunity.

The e-Car booking system – to manage the vehicle activity.

System was designed and developed by our own staff – it’s a database with over 120 registered users.currently it has recorded over 330 events with JEC alone.

Key data example: based only on fuel (petrol) Versus fuel (electricity)
The five project cars have covered approx 11000miles to date;
At £0.30 per mile the fuel cost would be £3300At £0.40 per mile the fuel cost would be £440011000miles in a petrol car would cost £1760
The e-Cars have cost £380._______________________________________________________________

e-Car electricity cost approx £0.035 per milePetrol car fuel cost approx £0.16 per mile
So…
if there is a £10000 difference between a comparable spec e-Car and petrol car, then based on the fuel cost only, it would break even at 79500 miles
