All sessions begin at 9:00 AM and end at 12:00 PM, unless otherwise noted.

General Information • The sessions are available to students currently enrolled in grades K-8, unless otherwise noted. • All students, resident or non-resident, are welcome to attend our camps. Feel free to share

this information with a friend or relative from a neighboring school district. • Suggested grade levels reflect the students’ grade levels during the 2016-2017 school year. • Students should enter through the central parking lot/gymnasium doors at Baldwin High

Please complete the online registration and submit payment to the main office of your child’s school in a sealed envelope with a check made out to the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, or you can mail a check to the address below. Please note your child’s name and camp(s) in the memo line of the check. *If you prefer to pay online, you can use your child’s e-Funds account (used for school lunches). Space is the place in the iks highlander

July 10-13, 2017 *Held at J.E. Harrison Middle School*

Dream Flight Adventures™ is an immersive, interactive learning experience that teaches teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving by blending science, technology, and engineering with social studies, humanities, and art. In other words, it’s a real-life Magic School Bus. It’s part simulator, part game, and part theater—and it creates an out-of-this-world experience! In this camp, you will spend your days exploring space and creating fantastic projects. Students will experience missions in the IKS Highlander simulator and will participate in summer camp activities like creating rockets and rovers and living like an astronaut. Each day will focus on a particular theme-get ready to blast off and become an official member of the Infinity Knights! Preschool Explore

In this camp, students will spend time working on skills learned in pre-school classrooms. Each day, students will complete activities aligned with current popular shows like Paw Patrol, Sofia the First, Blaze and the Monster Machines, Bubble Guppies, and others. Students will engage in activities such as story time, snack time, outside time/game time, art, and more in order to get ready for school.

Team Sports & Physical fitness

June 19-22, 2017

Grades 6-8 (8:30 AM-11:30 AM) Instructors: Mr. Cherico and Mr. Squeglia

In this camp, students will have the opportunity to learn about physical fitness in the HMS weight room, along with an introduction to a variety of team sports. Students will develop their individual skills as well as skills necessary to work as a member of a team. Please note, this camp will take place at J.E. Harrison Middle School in the gymnasium and on the athletic field. This camp also begins at 8:30 AM and runs until 11:30 AM.

Multicultural arts

June 19, 20, 28, & 29, 2017

Cost: $50.00 + $25 materials fee Grades 3-5 (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Instructor: Ms. Cooley

In this camp, students will have the opportunity to explore arts from other cultures. Students will examine masks from other countries and then create a sculptural mask using recyclables and paper mache. Students will explore printmaking on fabric to create African mud cloth designs and then we will all “art travel” to China and learn the Chinese method of brush painting using ink, bamboo brushes, and Sumi paper. The last class will be used to paint the masks and complete projects. Please note, students are asked to wear old clothes and/or an art shirt, as some of the art materials can stain clothing. (It’s not too early to start collecting found objects/recyclables that can work as features like eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, etc. for your mask. Please bring these materials to your first class.)

Bricks, Camera, Action! Lego Movie Making Cost: $50.00 + $10 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 2-8 Instructor: Dr. Harrold

This session will allow students to plan, build, and shoot their own stop-motion Lego movies. Using the iOS Lego MovieMaker app, along with dozens of different Legos, students will learn about the key elements to great storytelling, cinematography, and creativity. Students will begin by free building to create their Lego world from scratch, or use existing models. Then, they will storyboard their movies complete with key shots and characters. Once their pitch has been "approved," they will start making their own stop motion film. The final day will be a grand showcase of their work!

Happy Campers Adventure Cost: $50.00 + $10.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: K-2 Instructor: Ms. Hillard

Have you ever wanted to participate in camping activities? Participants in this camp will become campers and learn about camping activities and games! Throughout the duration of the camp, students will participate in themed camp stories, hands-on activities, crafts, and games! Each day, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with others to learn about nature, clouds, trees, and rocks!

Discovery Science Cost: $50.00 + $10.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 1-2 Instructors: Ms. Singleton & Ms. Martin

Do you love conducting science experiments? If so, this is the camp for you! During this fabulous fun-filled four days, students will explore and experience a variety of exciting discoveries. First, we will dissect owl pellets and learn about the food chain. We will conduct extraordinary egg experiments with ordinary eggs. We will take nature walks, investigate, and examine the world around us. Finally, we will discover how unique our fingerprints truly are and turn our special fingerprints into artwork. Lights...camera...action! In this camp, students will become actors, producers, and set designers as they solve and star in "The Great Gator Caper At Oceanside Zoo!" As students engage in an adventurous mystery game, they will learn the basics of cinematography and capture their experience on film. First, we will put our detective skills to work through an interactive 2-day mystery game! Next, students will learn how to use a Green Screen and movie making apps to create their movie trailer. Art will be explored through set and costume design. This class will integrate art, technology, creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Making Summer Fun with Music Cost: $50.00 Suggested Level: Grades: 3-5 Instructor: Ms. Kraus

Students will participate in various musical activities including dancing, singing, and using instruments. They will also spend some time creating their own instruments out of recyclable materials (water bottles, rubber bands, boxes, etc.).

Sew Much Fun! Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 materials fee* Suggested Level: Grades: 3-8 Instructor: Ms. Pfatteicher

In this camp, students will design and sew their own backpacks! Campers will learn how to use a sewing machine, how to cut fabric using a pattern, and how to construct their own backpacks using a sewing machine! *Campers will also be required to purchase fabric for their bags prior to the start of camp. More information will be provided prior to the first day of camp about the materials needed.

Sign Language for Starters! Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 3-8 Instructor: Ms. Graney

In this camp, students will learn the basics of communicating through American Sign Language (ASL). Topics will include the ABCs, numbers, colors, food, and basic communication questions and answers. Through games and activities, the students will interact with each other using ASL and the new vocabulary that they have learned. They will also learn how to sign one song and will sign it together on the last day of camp.

In this camp, students will have the freedom to create and compete in a series of LEGO building challenges over the course of several days. Whether it is Pirates or Castles, Ninjas or Batman, Star Wars or Classic, all Lego worlds will be explored. Additionally, students will test out new building techniques to improve their own creations at home. Students will have the chance to build, destroy, and build, again, dozens of creations by week's end, all in pursuit of the legendary title: Master Builder!

Introduction to Website Design Cost: $50.00 Suggested Level: Grades: 3-5 Instructor: Ms. Lacey

Students will be provided with an introduction to website design using a user-friendly drag and drop platform. Students will learn how to design a website by uploading photos, videos and content, along with adding pages and blogs. On the final day, students will have the opportunity to share their website with their peers, family, and friends!

Have you ever wondered how a movie is made? Have you ever wanted to be on TV, in the movies, or behind the camera? This is your opportunity. Take part in this exploratory camp that will teach you about video editing, green screen design, 2D animation, and the importance of audio. Do you have what it takes to be a director?

Fun with Nature Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: K-2 Instructor: Ms. McPaul

In this session, children will have the opportunity to stop and smell the roses while appreciating the world around them. Among the many activities during the week, children will create a bird feeder and a bird house, make a nature collage, learn about plants, turn rocks into art, and make leaf rubbings, just to name a few of the fun activities. Daily "nature” related snacks will also be served.

Yoga

Cost: $50.00 + $10.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 3-8 Instructor: Ms. Younkins

Want to manage stress, build concentration, increase self-confidence, develop body awareness, and be part of a healthy, non-competitive, friendly group? Yoga Camp is for you! Yogis and yoginis will enjoy a non-competitive, supportive atmosphere that will stretch and energize their bodies and minds. A typical camp day will consist of an outdoor morning yoga practice (inside if the weather is bad), breathing exercises, a short mediation, a healthy snack, and a yoga-related craft, followed by yoga games!

Spy Training Camp Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 Suggested Level: Grades: 3-8 Instructor: Ms. Setree

Quick, you are in the CIA and heading to Russia! You'll want to know everything there is about Russia to have a successful mission. If you choose to accept this mission, you will need to learn Russian Cyrillic, language, historical figures, culture, and events, as well as the trade secrets of being a spy. Discover this information to stop the rogue CIA agent in a final escape room type experience.

Music Production with GarageBand Cost: $50.00 Suggested Level: Grades: 5-8 Instructor: Mr. Booth

In this camp, students will have the opportunity to learn how to use the app, GarageBand, to produce music. During the camp, students will choose a favorite song and learn how to re-create all components of that song using GarageBand including: beats, chord progression, instrumentation, and more!

Kitchen Chemists from Around the World Cost: $50.00 + $10.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 3-5 Instructors: Ms. Fusco and Ms. Wessel

USA! Italy! Mexico! China! Explore the science of food in Kitchen Chemists! Students will explore various countries through food. Each day, we will prepare a culinary delight focusing on different types of ethnic food from various places around the world. Students will also have the opportunity to wear cultural clothing to match the menu themes! We may even have a few surprise experiments for students!

Paints, Canvas, Lights, Action! Cost: $50.00 + $15.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 3-5 Instructors: Ms. Feitl & Mr. Feitl

In this camp, students will be presented with beginner lessons for drawing, painting, and other creative art projects. Students will have the opportunity to work with different mediums, as well as individual projects throughout the course of the camp. Campers should bring an art shirt or smock on the first day of camp, as we will be working with paints.

Session 4 Camps

July 17-20, 2017

Young Scientists Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: K-2 Instructor: Ms. McPaul

Is your child fascinated with making things and experimenting? In this camp, children will perform experiments with candy, make slime, create a lava lamp, make puffy paint, and perform STEM challenges, just to name a few of the fun activities! Children will also have the opportunity to enjoy daily edible experiments!

Fun with Our Sun! Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 Suggested Level: Grades: K-2 Instructor: Ms. Passatore

Summer is the time for FUN in the SUN! During this camp, students will spend a week learning about our sun and all that it can do for us. While working collaboratively in groups, they will create a different project each day. These projects include a light box, a desalination experiment, an updraft tower, and even a solar oven. We will even be making our very own s'mores, once the oven is complete! Each day, students will be taught about the role the sun plays in our project and the impact it makes in our environment.

Hustling Highlanders Fitness Cost: $50.00 Suggested Level: Grades: K-5 Instructor: Mr. Godovchik

During this camp, students will learn about the many benefits of being active and creating healthy exercise habits. Each day, students will participate in a variety of games that will require them to be active and collaborate as a team. Students will also learn about what constitutes a healthy, balanced diet. Ultimately, students will learn how to make healthier life choices and work as a member of a team.

Kids Baking Championship Cost: $50.00 $15.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 5-8 Instructor: Ms. Ogrodnick

On the first day of camp, participants will learn the basics of measuring, mixing, kitchen safety, and baking championship rules will be introduced. In small teams, each group will select a dessert for competition. On day two, teams will have two hours to bake and prepare their desserts. They will then present to a panel of judges for round one of the baking challenge. On the last day of camp, participants will get a surprise recipe and will have the entire session to make the recipe. Participants will then present, once again, to the panel of judges who will decide on the grand championship team.

Paints, Canvas, Lights, Action! Cost: $50.00 + $15.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: 3-5 Instructors: Ms. Feitl & Mr. Feitl

In this camp, students will be presented with beginner lessons for drawing, painting, and other creative art projects. Beginning Sign and Sing Cost: $50.00 + $5.00 materials fee Suggested Level: Grades: K-5 Instructor: Ms. DePetro

In this camp, students will learn basic sign language through the use of music and poems. At the conclusion of camp, students will be able to sign a few songs and a poem and present their learning to their family members.
