ANNUAL REPORT SESSION – 2013-2014 Another glorious year has been added to the history of the college, which was full of curricular as well as co curricular activities. The session began on 22nd July, 2013. CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES INAUGURAL SESSION AND ORIENTATION PROGRAMME Prof. R.S. Yadav, Chairman, Department of Education, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, inaugurated the M.Ed session 2013-14 on 22.07.2013 and elaborated upon “Spiritual Basis of Life and Role of Teacher” in a very interactive manner. He also communicated the realities of life in relation to the spirituality. Orientation Programme for B.Ed. was also held on 22.07.2013. In the Orientation Programme, the students were familiarized with the Teacher Education profession. The students were made aware of the professional requirements, content outlines, examination system, code of conduct and different activities to be carried out during the whole session. Principal Dr. Amit Kauts addressed students of the new session and told them regarding the courses of B.Ed. and M.Ed. He also introduced the faculty members to the students. Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts elaborated the code of conduct along with the details of uniform, details regarding the scheme of sessional work, examination, management of tour and magazine and various inter house competitions. Another glorious year has been added to the history of the college, which was full of curricular as well as co curricular activities. The session began on 22nd July, 2013.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

INAUGURAL SESSION AND ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

Prof. R.S. Yadav, Chairman, Department of Education, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, inaugurated the M.Ed session 2013-14 on 22.07.2013 and elaborated upon “Spiritual Basis of Life and Role of Teacher” in a very interactive manner. He also communicated the realities of life in relation to the spirituality.

Orientation Programme for B.Ed. was also held on 22.07.2013. In the Orientation

Programme, the students were familiarized with the Teacher Education profession. The students were made aware of the professional requirements, content outlines, examination system, code of conduct and different activities to be carried out during the whole session.

Principal Dr. Amit Kauts addressed students of the new session and told them regarding the courses of B.Ed. and M.Ed. He also introduced the faculty members to the students. Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts elaborated the code of conduct along with the details of uniform, details regarding the scheme of sessional work, examination, management of tour and magazine and various inter house competitions.

Mrs. Neelu gave information about the cultural activities like Talent Hunt, Youth Festival and Inter College Competitions etc. The time table and allocation of students to different sections were discussed by Dr. Radha Arora. Meenakshi Sharma, Department of Education, Punjabi University, Patiala who delivered a talk on the topic “Conceptual Framework of Guidance and Counseling”. She elaborated the nature and concept of guidance that it is a continuous process. She also explained that counseling is one of the techniques of Guidance which leads to self realization, self actualization and self help. This lecture was organized by Career and Counseling cell of the College.

On 14.08.2013, Another extension lecture was given by Dr. Vandana Mehra, Professor,

Department of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh on the topic “Conceptual Framework of Educational Technology”. Speaking on the occasion, she elaborated the concept and nature of Educational Technology. She focused on the use of technological aids and equipments by the teacher in order to make teaching learning process more interesting. She also emphasized that technology is not only the use of equipment but rather it is the way of presenting the content to the students. She also shared her multifarious experiences from various Indian and foreign universities with students and said that in order to keep the human touch alive in teaching, we need to use technology in control.

On 16.09.2013, Two Extension lectures of one and half hour duration each were delivered on “Punjabi Culture” by S. Gill Surjit. He acquinted the students with the culture of Punjab and our rich heritage.

On 18.02.2014, another extension lecture was delivered on the topic “Teaching – Transition from Degrees to Virtues” by Dr Ashwani K. Sharma, Co-ordinator, School of General Studies, D.A.V. University, Jalandhar. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashwani Sharma Ji delebrated on the need of introspection and self actualization of nation builders for becoming good human beings. He also stressed that teachers should follow the core virtues like truth, peace, love, right conduct and non-violence whereas for higher virtues “tapa” is essential.

On 19.02.2014, An Extension Lecture on the topic ‘Real Meaning of Education’ by Dr Balwinder Singh, DM., FICP was delivered. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Balwinder Singh gave insightful presentation on the real meaning of education focusing on the learning of values to become enlightened, liberated and finally an educated human being. Another extension lecture on the same day was given on the topic ‘Indian and Western Schools of Philosophy’ by Prof. Harish Sharma, Retired Professor & Head, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof Harish Sharma gave insightful reflections on the Epistemology, Axiology, Metaphysics, Ethics and Aesthetics of the Western Schools of Philosophy viz. Idealism, Pragmatism, Naturalism and Existentialism. He also reflected upon the Indian Schools of Philosophy viz. Sankhya and Vedanta, as well. On 20.02.2014, An extension lecture was delivered on the topic “Socio – Emotional Climate” by Dr Harjit Kaur, (Retd.) Associate Professor, M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Harjit Kaur gave reflections on the need of making appropriate socio – emotional climate full of trust, love and care for optimum teaching and learning.

On 18.03.2014, an extension lecture was organized on the topic “Swami Vivekanand – Life and his Views on Women Empowerment”. The resource person for the day was Dr Neelam Sharma, Assistant Professor, Ramgarhia College of Education, Phagwara. Speaking on the occasion, the resource person reflected on the philosophy of Swami Vivekanand which motivates us to become fearless through struggle and serve humanity with peace. Talking about Swami Vivekanand’s views about women she stressed that there is no chance of the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved and called swamiji a real idealistic spiritual thinker. On 19.03.2014, A combined lecture was delivered by Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts, Associate Professor, MGN College of Education, Jalandhar for B.Ed and M.Ed. students on the theme “Various aspects of Learning with respect to Constructive Vision”.

CAREER AND COUNSELLING CELL ACTIVITIES

• VISIT TO RED CROSS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF: Students of M.Ed. visited the red cross school for the deaf. This was organized to make students sensitized towards the special education provided to the deaf students. Students spent a good time in conversing the deaf students through lip reading and sign language.

• WORKSHOP ON “TIME MANAGEMENT”: A workshop on “Time Management” by

Ms Vandana R., Manager, Operations, Techno Campus was organized on 20.2.2014. During this workshop, Ms Vandana R. stressed that the key to time management is strict and disciplined adherence to commitment to get the most out of education, reduce anxiety and achieve a more balanced and productive life. She also reflected on the three major steps to good management including developing a weekly schedule, writing a daily to-do list and preparing a long term plan and said that procrastination is the biggest enemy of Time Management. On this occasion, Officiating Principal Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts welcomed the guest and threw light on their academic excellence. Mrs Neelu Jhanji conducted the stage. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj. Among others Dr Radha, Dr Meharban Singh, Mrs Aarti, Mr Gagandeep Sharma, Mrs Gurpreet Kaur, Mrs Shivani, Mrs Geetanjali, Mrs Monika, Ms Gurpreet Kaur, Ms Mandeep Dosanjh, Ms Ramandeep, Mr Rohit Kumar and Mrs Manpreet Kaur were also present. Both the events were co-ordinated by Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts and Mrs Neelu Jhanji.

• CHALK BOARD WRITING WORKSHOP: Two days workshop for Vertical and Horizontal Chalk Board Writing for M.Ed and B.Ed students was organized in the college on 16th and 17th May 2014. Dr Meharban Singh and Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj were the co- coordinators of the workshop.

RED RIBBON CLUB ACTIVITIES

• CELEBRATION OF WORLD AIDS DAY : World AIDS Day was celebrated on Dec. 1, 2012 by the Red Ribbon Club in order to spread awareness towards AIDS.

• VISIT TO RED RIBBON EXPRESS: On 26.04.2014 members of the club visited red

ribbon express. HEALTH CLUB ACTIVITY

• Reiki Learning: Under the Health club, Professional and Competence building programme on 31.03.2014 was organized in the college on the topic “REIKI LEARNING ” by Madam Sapna Babbar, who oriented the teachers about the benefits of Reiki with special focus on healing powers.

RED CROSS UNIT

• FIRST AID : The unit provided First Aid treatment in two days sports meet, which was

held on 26-27th February, 2014 in the college campus. Mrs. Gurpreet Kaur and Mrs Shivani Gulati were the teacher incharges.

• EXTENSION ACTIVITY : On 19.04.2014 a lecture was organized in the college by Red

Cross unit to make students aware about casting vote. LITERARY CLUB AND ART CLUB ACTIVITIES

• CELEBRATION OF VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION MONTH: Literary Club and Art Club of M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar in collaboration with the Blood donation society of Civil Hospital, Jalandhar celebrated the blood donation month by organizing Poster Making and Declamation Competitions on 15.10.2013. The event was presided by Dr R. L. Vassan, Civil Surgeon, Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, Dr Lakhvir Singh, President, PAHAL and Dr Gagandeep Singh, Blood Transfusion Officer. Principal, Dr Amit Kauts welcomed all the present dignitories. Prof.Lakhbir Singh, President PAHAL, told that more than 80% lives of the accident victims could be saved due to availability of the blood on the spot. There is lack of awareness that is why large number of people do not opt for voluntary blood donation. Till date we are able to motivate only about 20% donors voluntarily as per our requirement for thelesemia, accidents, surgeries etc. Govt. bodies are not so serious about this, even till date there are not active blood donation councils in every district of Punjab, which is mandatory as per NACO guidelines and some of the districts have not yet formed the District Blood transfusion councils. In Punjab we need about two lac units of blood annually, but only about 40,000 units are coming voluntarily,

rest need is being fulfilled by replacement or by professional blood donors, which is against our national blood policy and even ethics.

In the Poster Making competition Simerdeep Kaur won first prize, Sunil Kapoor

stood second and Hardeep Talwar won third prize. Consolation prizes were given to Mili and Lakhvir Kaur. In Declamation Competition, Mandeep Kaur won first prize, Harminder Singh stood second and Smiley Batra won third prize. Consolation prizes were given to Jaspreet Kaur and Navni Sudeora. Chief Guest of the day Dr R. L. Vasan along with Principal Dr Amit Kauts gave away prizes to all the winners.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Navneet Kaur said that voluntary blood donors are

the cornerstone of a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood products. The safest blood donors are voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors from low risk populations. On this occasion, Dr Lakhbir Singh and Mrs Harvinder Kaur, Nirman Holistic School, Jalandhar who donated blood 42 times, were honoured by Red Ribbon Club of the College. Judgement of the competitions was done by Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj, Mr Rohit Kumar and Mrs Manpreet Kaur. Among other Mrs Neelu Jhanji, Dr Radha Arora, Dr Meharban Singh, Mrs Aarti Nanda and other staff members were also present in this Camp. The stage was conducted by Dr Meharban Singh. Mrs Neelu Jhanji was the overall incharge.

CELEBRATION OF IMPORTANT DAYS/ DIWAS

• ARDAS DIWAS

Together the blessings of the “Almighty” for the beginning of the session and to inaugurate the renovated College Hall, M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar organized the Ardas Diwas under the guidance of Dr Amit Kauts. ‘Ashtapadis’ from Sukhmani Sahib Paath were enchanted on the day. On this ocassion Head Granthi, Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Model Town, Bhai Balbir Singh Ji threw light on the bani of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

• N.S.S. CLEANLINESS CAMP

On 24th august, 2013, a cleanliness camp was organized by the N.S.S Unit in the College campus, where all the students participated.

• CELEBRATION OF TEACHER’S DAY

M.Ed students of College organized ‘Teacher’s Day’ in college campus. The function was presided over by Principal, Dr Amit Kauts. Speaking on the occasion Dr Amit Kauts emphasized the need of dedication of the Nation’s builders towards teaching profession and respect the teacher

– student bond immensely. He also emphasized the role of a teacher as a friend philosopher and a guide and compare teacher with God when he acts as a generator of knowledge, organizer of knowledge and dissolver of negative influences. He also stressed that teacher should build a sense of self – introspection so that they develop the capacity of constructive work.

On this occasion M.Ed students deliberated upon the preachings of Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan with B.Ed students. Sarvpreet Kaur and Kanika through their poem recited the importance of teachers. Munisha Sharma in her speech stressed the relevance of teacher’s day. The life sketch and preachings of Sarvpalli Radha Krishnan was portrayed through a power point presentation. On the day students took the oath to love teaching by soul and contribute to national development. Daljeet Sheetak conducted the stage. The whole programme was co-ordinated under the supervision of Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj and Ms Mandeep Dosanjh.

• CELEBRATION OF SADHBHAWANA DIVAS “Sadhbhawana Divas”, the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister of India Shri Rajiv Gandhi, was celebrated on 20.08. 2013 by the N.S.S. unit of M.G.N. College of Education. On this occasion, under the able guidance of Principal, Dr Amit Kauts, Slogan Writing, Collage making, Poster making and Essay writing competitions were organized. Principal Dr Amit Kauts, motivated the students by saying that these competitions not only help in understanding the importance of the day but also fruitful in bringing out the creavity of the students. More than 100 students participated in different competitions and decorated display boards with posters related to Sadhbhawana Divas.

The entire programme was co-ordinated by N.S.S. programme officer, Mrs Aarti Nanda along with Ms Ramandeep Kaur. Amongst others Mrs Neelu Jhanji, Dr Radha Arora, Dr Meharban Singh, Mr Gagandeep sharma, Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj and Mrs Gurpreet Kaur witnessed the event.

• COMMUNAL HARMONY WEEK N.S.S. unit of M.G.N. College of Education, under the able guidance of Principal Dr Amit

Kauts celebrated Communal Harmony week from 19.11.2013 to 25.11.2013. During this week, all the students of the College through various activities realized the importance of communal harmony. The whole week, students organized the activities like distribution of flags and collection of funds, poster making competition, power point presentation competition, slogan writing competition and essay writing competition on the theme “Communal Harmony” N.S.S. unit Officer Mrs Aarti Nanda organised entire the activities.

Students of our College have won various positions in various competitions held during Communal Harmony Week from 19.11.2013 to 25.11.2013 in the College.

• CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY BY VIVEKANAND HOUSE (M.ED) ON THE THEME “EDUCATION LEADS TO COMMUNAL HARMONY”

Celebrating the Communal Harmony week, Vivekananda House of College organized a

morning assembly to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on National Education day. The theme of the morning assembly was “Education leads to Communal Harmony”. On this occasion M.Ed students Daljeet Sheetak, Vandana and Punima Saini presented speech on life and preachings of Swami Vivekanand, life of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and on importance of National Education Day. Poems were recited by Sarvpreet and Kanika on the topics ‘Sikhiya da Mahattav’ and ‘Communal Harmony’. Two documentaries were also presented to throw light on the episodes and philosophy of the life of Swami Vivekananda. An enactment was also presented by Ritika, Kajal, Komal, Dimple, Munisha and Kanika. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Amit Kauts asserted that we need to seek ways to advance India’s prestige in the world as a knowledge society and to focus on how to educate our people. He also stressed to imbibe and internalize the feeling of communal harmony in our actions and thoughts. Daljeet Sheetak was the stage comparer. Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts and Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj co-ordinated the entire event.

• CELEBRATION OF HINDI DIWAS

M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar organized ‘Hindi Diwas’ on September 14, 2013 in the College campus. The function was presided over by Principal, Dr Amit Kauts. Speaking on the occasion Principal Dr Amit Kauts emphasized that our national language needs respect and importance. He also stressed that being an important literary language it becomes very important for all of us to learn and use this language from heart.

On this occasion students of the College Gurpreet Singh, Anju, Preeti, Neha, Vandana, Kamalpreet, Deepika and Mamta recited poems and Sukhwinder Singh, Harman, Pratibha, Aarti presented speech on the topic “Spread and Development of Hindi”. Through their speeches and poems students focused the need to glorify our national language ‘Hindi’.

initiative. The entire event was oeganised by Mrs Monika. The stage was conducted by Samriti. Amongst others Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts, Mrs Neelu, Dr Radha Arora, Dr Meharban Singh, Mrs Aarti, Mr Gagandeep Sharma, Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj, Mrs Gurpreet Kaur and Mrs Shivani Gulati witnessed the event.

• CELEBRATION OF 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF SWAMI VIVEKANAND

“Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached”

This philosophy of Vivekanand was discussed and presented through a seminar held in M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar in collaboration with Bharat Vikas Parishad on the occasion of Swami Vivekanand’s 150th Birth Anniversary on January 13, 2014, presided over by Dr Anil Kalia, Zonal Chairman, Bharat Vikas Parishad. The Resource Person of the Seminar was Dr Ashwini Bhargav, Registrar, Sri Guru Ravidas Ayurvedic University, Hoshiarpur. Speaking on the occasion he reflected upon the message of ‘Spiritual Awakening’ as preached by Swami Vivekanand. He also stressed that ‘Dharma’ is the pivotal for the Indian Cultural transmission, expension and enhancement.

On this occasion Vivekanand’s Life & Philosophy was exhibited on the display boards. Daljeet Sheetak presented the life sketch of the Swami Vivekanand. The philosophy of Swami Vivekanand was commemorated by Vandana through a Powerpoint presentation. Saravpreet presented a poem depicting the message of Swami Vivekanand to Indian Youth. An enactment was done depicting the philosophy of Vivekanand who longed for equality.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Amit Kauts emphasized that the need of the hour is to remember and seek continuous guidance from the achievements and philosophy of Swami Vivekanand. The event was witnessed by the guests Sh.Ramesh Vij, General Secretary, B.V.P. STUDENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

Under the Student Enrichment Programme, College organized a series of Inter-House Competition. In this series Black Board Writing & Sketching Competition, Thematic Display Board Competition, On the Spot preparation of Teaching Aids Competition and Prepared

Teaching Aids, On the Spot Preparation of Power Point Presentation were organized. The BB Writing Competition was held in three languages viz. English, Hindi and Punjabi. The purpose of which was to make the would be teacher competent to use the black board appropriately. In the Thematic Display board competition different themes like Inclusive Education, Value Education, Environmental Education, Health Education, Democracy and Education were taken up. All the students participated in the competition enthusiastically. The purpose of the competition was to sensitize the would be teachers about the pertinent issues. EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO SCIENCE CITY All the B.Ed. students of the college went to Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthla on 11 -2-2014. This trip was organized by M.Ed. students. TWO DAYS NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “QUALITY CONCERNS IN T EACHER EDUCATION”

M.G.N. College of Education organized a two days National Seminar on ‘Quality Concerns in Teacher Education’ sponsored by IQAC and Alumni Association of the College on 3rd and 4th May, 2014 . The sub-themes of the seminar were: Theme I: Curricular issues for effective Teacher Education in the context of NCFTE 2009, Theme II: Pedagogical issues for Quality Teacher Education in the context of Inclusive Education, Theme III: Pedagogical issues for Quality Teacher Education in context of ICT and Project Based Approach, Theme IV: Quality issues in Practice Teaching and Theme V: Evaluation issues for Quality Teacher Education.

On the first day, the inaugural session was presided over by Prof. R.K. Kohli, Vice Chancellor, D.A.V University, Jalandhar and he offered a global perspective on education and change in education. During the session resource persons, Prof. Rajender Singh Yadav, Department of Education, Kurukshetra University, Prof. Mubarak Singh, Dean and Head, Department of Education, University of Jammu, Prof Harpreet Chhabra, Professor, Faculty of Education, Panjab University, Prof. Darshana Sharma, DDE, University of Jammu were chaired different technical sessions. On this occasion a compilation of 131 papers in the form an ISBN book edited by Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts and Mrs Pooja Bhardwaj. Dr Amit Kauts, Principal, M.G.N. College of Education is the Chief Editor of the book. On this occasion, Secretory, MGN Education Trust , S. Jarnail Singh Pasricha appreciated the efforts put in the publication of the edited book and he also said that it will provide inputs to deliberate some crucial issues in the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Anita Rastogi, Department of Educational Studies, J.M.I.

New Delhi reflected upon the current challenges of teacher education and also suggested some of the ways to deal with present challenges. Speaking in the special lecture, Prof K. Ramachandran, Advisor, India Africa Istitute of Educational Planning and Administration (I.A.I.E.P.A.) Project, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA, emphasized on the right use of technology integration with pedagogy of teaching- learning. In an interesting and

elaborative manner he stressed the importance of teachers and raised various concerns which have been deliberated on various forum of NCTE and MHRD for the purpose of policy planning. He cited concerns raised by Justice Verma Committee on quality of teacher education in India. Sharing his experiences in UNESCO & UNICEF in various European countries, America and China, he observed that most of the effective institutions in India and Abroad observes high level of discipline and commitment to work which is key to quality in educational institutions.

On the second day, the special session was presided over by Prof K.K.Sharma, Pro Vice

Chancellor, North Eastern University, Shillong. Prof (Retd.) Shakuntala Nagpal from Department of Teacher Education (NCERT), New Delhi emphasized upon the curricular, pedagogical issues related to teacher education. She recorded wish to bring innovations in present day teacher education curriculum to bring quality in the education. Prof Amrendra Behera, Head I.C.T’s and Training Division, C.I.E.T, N.C.E.R.T stressed that the constructivist pedagogy integrated with ICT is the practical way to bring quality in education. He shared many of the initiatives taken by MHRD, NCERT, UGC, ISSR with respect to launching of ICT based educational programmes and portals which help in the delivery of better instructions consequently better learning.

While welcoming the guests, Principal Dr Amit Kauts raised few concerns , especially in

the context of Verma Committee, wherein he emphasized the need to conduct entrance test while selecting teachers. He also cited his deep concern regarding the demand and supply of teachers. Current evaluation system was another concern cited by him. He stressed that along with cognitive aspect certain designs and tools to be developed for the evaluation of the attitudinal aspect of teachers. During the session resource persons, by Prof K.K.Sharma, Pro Vice Chancellor, North Eastern University, Shillong, Prof Amrendra Behera, Head I.C.T’s and Training Division, C.I.E.T, N.C.E.R.T and Prof. Darshana Sharma, DDE, University of Jammu were chaired different technical sessions.

The valedictory session was presided over by Prof A.P. Singh, Dean Research and

Innovation, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that only ICT and innovation is not sufficient for bringing quality in education. For quality, teachers should develop character and they should be given value orientation. Presidential remarks were given by Prof K.K.Sharma, Pro Vice Chancellor, North Eastern University, Shillong. In this session, the report and recommendations of the two days seminar were read by Associate Professor, Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts. Prof. Darshana Sharma, DDE, University of Jammu, Jammu, Dr Vanita Garg, Principal, D.A.V. College of Education, Amritsar, Mr Yogesh Sharma, Assistant Professor, Ramgarhia College of Education, Phagwara and Mrs Pummy Sheron, Assistant Professor, Department of English, LPU, Phagwara gave their reflections about the seminar.

During these two days, around 200 delegates from various universities of India

54TH ANNUAL SPORTS MEET

M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar organized its 54th Annual Sports Meet on 26th & 26th February, 2014. The closing ceremony was presided over by S. Jarnail Singh Pasricha, Secretary, M.G.N. Educational Trust. The opening ceremony of the Sports Meet was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Amit Kauts, who declared the 54th Annual Sports Meet open. Different marching houses saluted the chief guest and other renowned dignitaries.

More than 100 students participated in various events like 100 m race, 200 m race, long jump, shot put, relay race, obstacle race, sack race, pillow fighting, apple race, chatti race and rug of war. On the closing ceremony, former trustee Sh Ramneek Kalra, former Principals, M.G.N. College of Education, Mr R.S. Kumar, Mr D.S. Mangat, Ex-faculty members of the College S. In the closing ceremony, Chief Guest, Secretary, S Jarnail Singh Pasricha said that he was

delighted to watch the way Sport events were organized and said that sports is so essential element and it is the vision of the College to develop according to their potential and nurture. On this occasion, Principal Dr Amit Kauts welcomed the guest and said that knowledge is power and vision is the power to use the knowledge, these put together develops personality. He encouraged the students to think wisely which rejuvenate to achieve goal.

Sartre House was declared as the Best House for their performances in various competitions throughout the year. In Fancy Dress Sakshi was first, Rashmi Arora was second and Tarsem Lal was third. Gurpreet Singh was declared best athlete among boys and Parveen was among girls. The 54th Annual Sports meet was co-ordinated by Mrs Aarti Nanda.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

WORKSHOP ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF SCHOOL TEAC HERS

For the professional development of the school teachers and develop functional relationship with its practicing schools, M.G.N. College of Education, Jalandhar organized two days Workshop entitled ‘ICT Skills’ on 30th and 31st May, 2014 to give hands on experiences of ICT skills to teachers. This workshop aimed at strengthening the relationship with one of the institution’s important stakeholders i.e. practicing schools. This workshop was presided over by Principal Dr Amit Kauts who in the inaugural address emphasized that in spite of being having many apprehensions, ICT skills are essential to address the current learning needs of the students. He also stressed on the productive and educational use of social networking sites instead of sheer sharing of personal information. In different technical sessions, Mrs.Shivani Gulati, Assistant Professor gave orientation on MS-word including formatting CV, Preparing MCQ Form and Preparing Tables; MS.Power Point with focus on preparing animated presentation, MS-Excel with the focus on list sorting, usage of functions in Excel – sum, average etc. and orientation to Internet with the focus on search engines, creation of Email id, introduction to social networks and educational blogs. Ms Gurpreet Kaur and Ms. Mandeep Dosanjh assisted Mrs Shivani Gulati during the workshop. 18 teachers from 13 practicing schools participated in the workshop. Dr Meharban Singh was the co-ordinator of the workshop. While conveying thanks to the participating teachers Mrs.Neelu Jhanji conveyed the heartfelt gratitude towards the Principals of practicing schools.
