Competitiveness
• Textile and clothing sector faces fierce competition from low-costs manufacturing countries
• Efficiency and competitiveness in textile and clothing manufacturing must take into account the current and future energy challenges
• Energy consumption is high and therefore energy costs have a significant impact on competitiveness of companies

the European Union 9
Deficites
• Lack of reliable information and sound data on energy saving opportunities
• Lack of guidance to exploit energy saving opportunities
• High implementation cost of energy saving systems
• Long period for a complete return of investments, knowing that the European clothing industry suffers from heavy pressure from Asian and African competitors
SESEC - Motivation - Goals - Approach - Results - Benefit
Co-funded by the Intelligent
Energy Europe Programme of
the European Union 10
Low Progress
• Very often old machinery with poor energy efficiency is in use
• Development of energy efficient machinery was less important
• In the past labour costs were more important than energy costs in production resulting in few organisational approaches considering energy aspects

SESEC goal is to improve the Energy Efficiency in clothing industry, with special attention to small and medium enterprises
Co-funded by the Intelligent
Energy Europe Programme of
the European Union 13
Improve Energy Efficiency
• Develop, test and offer an Energy Efficiency Scheme (ESS) for companies, particularly SMEs, of the European clothing industry.
• Extend the project impact beyond the companies and countries by transferring information and best practices
• Reduce quantity of energy consumed during the production process
• Avoid unnecessary consumption of energy
• Recover energy from the production process and reuse it
• Generate alternative energy sources (solar energy, wind turbines, …)

Additional Goals
• Provide content with sound information and benchmark data to the relevant European stakeholders
• Mobilise the wider European business community towards Energy Saving opportunities
• Create both meeting and training opportunities in Europe to exploit Energy Saving opportunities

thermal and electric consumption.
In Bulgaria, thanks to SESEC, the producer Kris
Fashion has identified a potential saving of 10-15% in its annual energy consumption.
The Romanian company SC Datsa Textil SRL has identified a series of actions which have
already saved an average of 20% of the
electricity costs.
The Portuguese company DAMEL identified savings in lighting, variable speed in
production machine and insulation for up to
5% of their electricity consumption and for up
to 3% in the consumption of thermal energy.
