After continuing to service many discontinued analysers beyond their designated life span, the obsolescence of key components means Servomex no longer provide support to the following products:
The tests, conducted by Dr Hisashi Abe between December 2012 and January 2013, passed varying levels of trace moisture in nitrogen through the DF-749.
Throughout the tests, the DF-749 showed exceptional reliability and accuracy, validating the DF-749 as a gas analyser ideal for measuring low moisture concentrations.
Part of the industry-leading DF-700 series, the DF-749 is suitable for a number of specialised applications, including monitoring of moisture behaviour in ultra-high purity gas distribution systems used in semiconductor fabrication, as well as detection of moisture in ammonia gas, which can degrade LED device performance.
As these analysers now greatly exceed their designated operational lifetime, Servomex recommends customers avoid potential operational problems by upgrading these analysers as soon as possible.

A cornerstone activity designed to help Servomex understand the voice of the customer, our User Advisory Council meetings engage with expert regional representatives to improve our understanding of process analyser and system solutions.
Taking place in Suzhou, nr. Shanghai, in April, twelve leading representatives from Chinese industries met senior representatives from Servomex to discuss the issues they face. Among key topics discussed were methods of improving measurement availability and developing best practice on sample system solutions. Dedicated sessions were also held on combustion analysers and photometric technology.
Representatives attending included Mr Linzhong Yang (Shanghai Petrochemical), Mr Feng Gao (China Petro Funshun Petrochemical), Mr Yiming Zhou (Shanghai Chem Engineering) and Ms Ping Jiang (China Kunlun Engineering Co.).
The meeting was considered to be a success by all and Servomex thanks all attendees for their time and input.

The SERVOPRO Chroma uses advanced gas chromatograph (GC) technology for measurements that enable a complete evaluation of the efficiency of the air separation process. Usually employed to measure impurities in bulk gases, the Chroma can be configured for the sub ppm analysis of Nitrogen (N2) in crude Ar (typically 90 per cent oxygen, balance Ar and N2) – a measurement that cannot be obtained by trace N2 in Ar analysers, or by thermal conductivity detectors which cannot return the low level sensitivity required for the measurement. Together, Servomex’s unique patented combination of plasma emission detector and dopant injection technology provides an extremely stable N2 measurement - and requires only an argon
status. With the onboard computer removing the requirement for external computer control, the simple and intuitive user interface enables improvements to be implemented quickly and easily.
In trials, where Ar was produced in cryogenic liquid from the onsite ASU, the Chroma sample system was set up in different parts of the process so that it returned multiple data readings from across the process. Analysis of those results enabled adjustments to be made that returned up to three percent increases in Ar recovery, dependent on the operations and type of plant involved.

A real time optical analyser utilising the Precisive field proven optical bench, the SpectraScan offers a breakthrough capability in the continuous analysis of light hydrocarbons C1-C5+. With an innovative measurement technology using NIR/IR absorption spectroscopy with state of the art spectral scanning coupled with chemometric based data processing, the SpectraScan delivers exceptionally high accuracy, low cross sensitivity and a very fast speed of response.
A flow-through cell utilises a patented spectrometer design for a high quality optical measurement, resulting in a high signal-to-noise ratio which gives a highly
stable and accurate measurement. No separation columns and valves are required.
Hydrocarbon infra-red spectra are broad, with the wavelength of different elements heavily overlapping. The SpectraScan achieves a precise separation into constituent components by utilising an advanced Tunable Filter Spectroscopy Analysis Algorithm.
Optimised with cross interference modeling, spectral non-linearity compensation and peak shifting compensation, this breakthrough Chemometric algorithm delivers industry-leading interference compensation with a permanent span calibration, low cross-interference (< 0.2%), high baseline stability and a linear response throughout the scanning range.

The SERVOTOUGH LaserSP TDL gas analyser from Servomex has been proven to deliver an optimum combustion control solution for ethylene cracker furnaces.
The key to combustion efficiency is minimising excessive air in the combustion chamber, a process which requires fast speed of response when monitoring the flue oxygen concentration at close to the optimum level and for the detection of carbon monoxide in the flue gas. The LaserSP, a high performance combustion monitor which utilises the latest tunable diode laser (TDL) technology, combines a response time of less than two seconds with an in-situ measurement location that eliminates any sample system delays.
The ability to measure these gases at up to 1500°C allows the LaserSP to be located close to the furnace burner, delivering
the fastest possible speed of response. Additionally, the TDL analysis technique offers a representative path-averaged measurement of process gas concentrations with a sensitivity that enables it to highlight faults: for example, problems with a single burner jet can be detected by the LaserSP, even in furnaces where more than 100 burners may be present.
When utilised for a typical measurement of 0-10% O2 and 0-1000ppm CO respectively, the LaserSP delivers a flue gas analysis solution that enables optimisation of the combustion control process, improving process efficiency by lowering fuel consumption and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Offering highly stable performance and minimum sample conditioning requirements with no moving parts and consumables, the LaserSP also minimises maintenance costs. With the accurate and reliable measurement delivered through a rugged and reliable Servomex design, the LaserSP is the best solution for in-situ measurements in the extreme and
harsh environments of an ethylene furnace.
Servomex’s advanced technology also enables additional cost and process control benefits. In traditional TDL in-situ installations, it is common practise to flow a dry N2 purge gas over the windows of analysers to protect the optics. Instrument air is not used as the oxygen content would interfere with the O2 combustion chamber measurement. The infra-red scan range of the LaserSP enables the inclusion of additional absorption lines which only appear at greater than 600°C. By using one of these “hot lines” to monitor the process O2, it is possible to use instrument air as the window purge gas without any interference to the measurement. The standard “cold” O2 absorption line is monitored and the signal utilised for the purpose of checking the LaserSP’s response to a test gas, and to provide an alarm in the event of an interruption of the flow of window purge gas. The LaserSP monitor with air purge typically saves $5000pa (Euro4000pa) compared to a traditional TDL with nitrogen purge.

A coulometric sensor is a technology that operates on a similar principle to an electrochemical sensor. The flow of electrons, or current, from an electrochemical reaction is measured directly to provide the oxygen concentration in a sample gas.
In coulometric sensing, the quantity of electrons that flows through the circuit between the cathode and anode is proportional to the concentration of oxygen in the sample gas. By counting the number of electrons flowing through its circuit, this flow of electrons is measured by the analyser electronics and the oxygen concentration is displayed.
The circuit is connected between the sensor’s cathode electrode and its anode electrode, with a polarizing DC voltage used to facilitate the flow of electrons. Oxygen from the sample gas gets to the cathode electrode by diffusing through a very small hole in a barrier
covering the cathode. Oxygen molecules in contact with the cathode are reduced according to the following electrochemical reaction. The oxygen ions, O2 -, are attracted though a solid electrolyte that is heated to 400°C and converted back to molecular oxygen at the anode electrode.
As an oxygen sensing technology, coulometric sensing is well suited for applications that require accuracy above one ppm at ppm and/or percent level. Coulometric sensors respond very quickly to changing oxygen concentrations, with a sensor exposed to air being able to measure <10ppm for pure nitrogen within one minute. This makes the sensor attractive for users who have upset prone applications and need to make ppm-level measurements.
The solid state nature of the technology provides a range of operational advantages. As coulometric sensors are not consumed when exposed to oxygen, they avoid the requirement for constant purge to protect the sensor when the analyser is not being used; the sensor’s lifetime is also not dependant on how

The DF-100 series is a general purpose industrial analyser delivering reliable oxygen measurement at percent and trace levels. Based around the DF-150E base model, several versions are available including the DF-140E, a NEMA 4-compliant water/dust tight version for outdoor environments, and the DF-130E low-cost version with a basic range of options. A DF-110 version is available for OEM manufacturers, while the DF-150 can be built to customer specifications.

The sample gas is not humidified or altered in any way after it passes through a coulometric sensor, making it advantageous for users wishing to make in-situ measurements or who wish to recycle sample gas from a “flow-through” analyser exhaust back into the process. Coulometric sensors also require no periodic electrolyte maintenance or a reference gas to support the measurement.
As with any oxygen sensing technology, the sensor cannot be used with sample gases containing hydrocarbons, combustibles, H2, CO, NO2, S, or Pb, which may give false low readings or damage the sensor.
The flexibility and reliability of coulometric sensors means it is the mainstay sensor of the Servomex DF range, adapted to oxygen measurements at percent, trace and ultra-trace levels.
