A first major milestone of earning a College Associates Degree of Science is being attained by ten senior students from Falfurrias High School Senior Class 2020. According to Dr.
María Rodríguez-Casas, Brooks County I. S. D. Superintendent, “This is a historical and recognizable achievement of the first ever senior class students attaining an associate’s
degree before receiving a high school diploma. These senior students
of Class 2020 are being recognized at Graduation for the attainment of their Associates Degree of Science. The majority of these
students participated in a Summer Bridge Program at Coastal Bend College attaining dual credit college courses in the summer of 2016 as incoming freshman
students. Although, Falfurrias High
School is not an official Early College High School designation campus, BCISD offers incoming freshman students with an opportunity to enroll at Coastal Bend College and Texas A&M University-Kingsville for dual credit courses earning college and high school credit through their participation of the Summer Bridge Program.
These recognized senior students attended Summer Session at Coastal Bend College with an opportunity to start earning a high school diploma and 60 college credit hours by providing dual credit at no cost to students; offering rigorous instruction and accelerated courses; providing academic and social support services to help students succeed; increasing college
