WHO WE AREThe Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established Water and Sanita�on Services Company Peshawar in September 2014 with an aim to provide quality WATSAN services . WSSP is registered with the Securi�es and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) under sec�on 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984.

It also test water quality from �me to �me at Pakistan Council of Scien�fic and Industrial Research (PCSIR) and University of Engineering Technology (UET). Besides, sanita�on staff provides municipal services at 43 urban union councils of the provincial capital. They work in two shi�s, collect solid waste, open drains, repair and replace broken pipes, construct streets and drains.

The mission of establishing WSSP is provision of water and sanita�on services to inhabitants of 43 urban union councils of Peshawar that were under the the territorial jurisdic�on of the defunct municipal corpora�on Peshawar (MCP) now Town municipal Administra�on I, II, III & IV. WSSP is striving to provide potable water, a basic human right, along with quality sanita�on services in an equitable and sustainable manner following the interna�onal service standards.

Dear ReadersWSSP has been me�culously implemen�ng Prime Minister Imran Khan's 'Clean and Green Campaign' in Peshawar. We are taking dras�c steps to make this ini�a�ve a success. WSSP, in a short span of �me, improved its delivery services by hiring skilled and qualified staff, acquired modern machinery and starts use of modern and cost-effec�ve technology to collect waste. This is because of WSSP commitment that Peshawar has witnessed visible posi�ve changes in terms of solid waste management, water supply and drainage since its incep�on. To facilitate our valued consumers and resolve their problems, we have

set up an ac�ve and responsive Complaint Cell no1334 and Safa Pekhawar mobile app where consumers can lodge complaints 24/7. We have addressed 99 percent of complaints on water supply and sanita�on. Moreover, our Community Liaison Cell engage community to create awareness on importance of water and sanita�on. The cell invites them to awareness sessions, holds corner mee�ngs, visits to schools, mosques and seminaries. WSSP has become the first ever municipal services in KP to have acquired its own dumping land in Shamshato area of Peshawar.

WATER SUPPLY

WSSP is responsible to ensure smooth supply of clean potable water to consumers.The municipal services provider supplies clean drinking water to over 65000 registered consumers in 43 union councils from its 506 tube-wells. A strong force of 1500 water supply staff work day and night to e n s u re s u p p l y o f wa te r t o t h e consumers. They are to repair, register and provide water connec�ons. It also collected water samples from 458 points and tested at laboratory for quality since September 2014 to ensure consumer get pure water. WSSP has replaced 268 kilometer supply lines crossing drains to end contamina�on. Thus far, WSSP has conducted 1500 quality tests of water in collabora�on with University of Engineering Technology Peshawar.It also rehabilitates/repaires and maintains 24 filtra�on plants. The sanita�on staff is busy in replacing the pipelines in remaining areas. WSSP received 51153 complaints of which 99 percent have been addressed.

WSSP Sanita�on staff of WSSP collect 78 percent of waste from the city and properly dispose it at Shamshato. Our sanita�on staff collect and dispose around 783 ton every day.Besides, sanita�on staff collect waste from its assigned collec�on points, 313 containers placed in different points in 43 UCs and dump it at the dumping site. The urban u�lity has deployed a sanita�on staffer whose responsibility are to put waste in the containers that are dumped outside them. WSSP is proud to announce that it has addressed 28,800 complaints it received on its 24/7 ac�ve complaint cell 1334 regarding solid waste management.

PROJECTS

WSSP has constructed 24 new tube-wells and done re-boring of six tube-wells that provide water to around 92 223 consumers for 10 hours daily. It has been spending Rs82 million on rehabilita�on and re-construc�on of street pavements, drains and water supply lines to do away to improve drainage system. A project called Over Head Reservoirs Stability (OHRS) is underway in collabora�on w i t h U n i v e r s i t y o f Engineering Technology. It will spend Rs2 million to ascertain whether overhead reservoirs are safe structure-wise. WSSP is working on several plans including waste to energy plan and Sanitary Landfill Development. In future, there are three mega projects including Greater Water Supply Scheme under which it will provide water to inhabitant of Peshawar from Mohmand, Bara and Jaba dams. Other projects are rehabilita�on of sewage system and building an integrated solid waste management system for the city.

A�er months of hec�c efforts, WSSP has finally acquired a permanent dumping site spreading over an area of 218 kanals. The land was acquired at a cost of Rs174 million while Rs36.6 million will be spent on construc�on of a boundary wall around it.To implement Environmental Protec�on Agency's parameters, the dumping site is acquired 30 kilometers away from Peshawar and a distance from populated areas. Keeping in view its environmental hazards, waste dumped at the site are covered with lime and soil to avoid li�ering by wind, stench and breeding ground for mosquitoes. Steps are also taken to avoid contamina�on of ground water.

The Management Informa�on System deals with IT, purchasing and designing of so�ware and applica�ons. MIS sec�on has updated its website to bolster its online presence. Consumers can download duplicate bills. It has designed a 24/7 ac�ve Complaint Management System 1334. It installed pilot scale implementa�on of SCADA system on 4 tube wells of WSSP that helped save 26% in cost. Besides, it has designed comprehensive GIS based customer's database with informa�on about the consumers.

COMPLAINT CELLIt has an ac�ve complaint cell where complaints about sanita�on and water issues can be lodged 24/7. WSSP representa�ves will visit the site, take picture before and a�er addressing the complaint. These pictures will then be sent to the complainant as well as management a�er it is solved.

GIS-BASED ATTENDANCE SYSTEMWSSP's Management and Informa�on System has introduced a GIS-based a�endance systems for its field staff in all its four zones. It will help enhance efficiency of solid waste management through introduc�on of GIS based Fleet Management System

EIDUL ADHA ACTIVITIES

Prior to the Eid, an extensive awareness campaign was launched on social, electronic and print media sensi�zing masses in its jurisdic�on where and how to dispose animal waste. Mee�ngs were held with prayer leaders, elders and teachers and they were requested to dispose waste at WSSP designated points.

WSSP had chalked out a comprehensive plan for solid waste management for Eidul Adha.

Major Masajids/ Eid Gahs were specially focused with extensive mass media campaign to ensure cleanliness. WSSP deployed 292 owned fleet and addi�onally 143 private machinery including dumpers, tractor trolleys and shovels on first day, 129 on second and 83 on third day of Eid. WSSP also managed cleanliness of Ijtmai Qurban Gahs by providing addi�onal resources like Suzuki dumpers, Containers, Trolleys etc for collec�on of animal waste and its disposal. In addi�on, 43 temporary transfer sta�ons were made & the community was guided to dump animal waste, from where WSSP sanita�on staff would collect and disposed them properly. Moreover, special cleanliness arrangements were made around Eid-Gahs/mosques. WSSP collected and disposed 9500 tons of waste on Eidul Adha.

Shaheen Muslim Town I and II are considered most congested locali�es of Peshawar. Its cleaning was a major challenge for the company. To tackle this challenge, WSSP has signed a six-month cleanliness project on August 18, 2018 under a Memorandum of Understanding with UNICEF.As per the MoU, UNICEF agreed to contribute Rs17.5 million under the MoU while WSSP allocated Rs15 million for the towns. Both par�es agreed to work together to enhance sanita�on services in the locali�es.WSSP hired 100 addi�onal sanita�on staff for both towns and a cleanliness drive was launched immediately. WSSP deployed extra machinery including tractors trolleys, dumpers and mini dumpers as well as addi�onal waste containers. Mini dumpers were acquired to access the congested streets of the towns and collect waste while sanita�on staff would use push carts.An awareness campaign was also launched to sensi�se the residents of the locali�es how to dispose waste, keep their streets clean and drains open.

Billboards and banners carrying awareness message were displayed and pamphlets were distributed. Mee�ngs were held with elected representa�ves, ulema and teachers were engaged.

100 DAYS PLAN

CUSTOMER SURVEY

WSSP has launched an 18-month long 'Customer Survey' to assess and improve services delivery. Experts have been hired to carry out this survey. They are equipped with electronic gadgets and conduct door-to-door survey to register unregistered consumers who have been availing WSSP municipal services.The survey will help WSSP get public opinion on standard of current facili�es, computeriza�on of consumers' data, provision of clean water, improvement of drainage system and cleanliness.

WSSP has finalized a 100-Day Plan in light of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's direc�ons to evaluate and improve our services.

The plan is being implemented in collabora�on with the Local Government Department, tehsil municipal administra�ons and district administra�on Peshawar to implement Prime Minister Clean and Green ini�a�ve.

To make this plan a success, WSSP divided its staff in two shi�s morning and evening and placed addi�onal waste containers in locali�es under its jurisdic�on.

Besides, the municipal body is in touch with the elected representa�ves of Peshawar District Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and other stakeholders to get their opinion regarding the quality of services being provided to ci�zens.

CITIZEN LIAISON CELL

Keeping Peshawar clean and green without the coopera�on of masses is impossible. To engage the community to conserve water and proper disposal of waste to keep the city clean, WSSP has got set up Ci�zen Liaison Cell.

The cell holds regular corner mee�ngs, workshop and seminars throughout 43 union councils with community elders, teachers and seek their support in convincing people to properly dispose waste generated from their houses, markets and shops.

The CLC organizes awareness sessions at schools, colleges and seminaries where they sensi�se students on importance of water and sanita�on. It also engage elected representa�ves of local governments as well as provincial and Na�onal Assemblies to seek their support in crea�ng awareness among masses regarding sanita�on and water conserva�on.

It has organized awareness sessions at seminaries, public areas, schools and colleges. CLC teams in all four zones of WSSP visit schools and hold prac�cal sessions with students to make them awareness how important is physical and environmental hygiene.
