Check-in time! Hemmy Patel, Holiday Inn Express, searches for her nametag. Hurry. Lunch’ll be soon!

Terri Fought, Classic Party Rentals & Jill Helene Kemp, Memphis Communi-cations Corp., welcome to the Memphis Marriott Thousand Oaks!

Bridgett Askew, FedEx Family House & Kathryn Dewey, Solar Tech: old friends are welcome here!

The old bowtie man himself, Premiere Transportation’s Ham Smythe, greets Burch Porter Johnson’s Lisa Krupicka as she checks in.

Smile! The camera’s watching! Memphis Marriott GM & luncheon host Bill Tokman with MMHLA Prez Mary Calorio.

It’s Bob Cox, Staybridge Suites; Becky Anderson, Com-fort Inn Downtown & MCVB’s Chris Roan.

It’s Ham Smythe again (I do like the purple bowtie) with Clarion Security’s Larry Heathcott. (Anyone notice he look a bit like Bruce Willis?)

Richard Zurburg offers a few words about Oct. 17’s Allied Cafe at the Doubletree East. You’ll be there, right?

Main speaker Jennifer Hagerman of Burch Porter & Johnson pauses a moment before updating us on the legal issues facing the hospitality industry.

Lisa Krupicka of Burch Porter & John-son again, surely imparting important legal information.

We just completed the World Series of Housekeeping, and thirteen teams joined the competition this year. A great taco bar complete with ice cream was available for all attendees. This year’s competition was revamped with one event eliminated, and a few new events added. I thought Memphis Trivia was a nice addition, and I know the committee is already considering some sug-gestions for next year. Personally, I’d like to see an event for Executive Housekeepers. Wouldn’t it be great to hear everyone cheer-ing for their Executive Housekeeper????

I would like to thank each property that sponsored a team this year, and to encour-age each hotel property to participate in next year’s competition. (We have 60+ hotels in our association so a goal of 18 teams is re-alistic!!) This was the first year for our newly formed World Series of Housekeeping Com-mittee. The goal was to look at what we’re currently doing, how we can improve, and ways to get more properties involved. If you would like to serve on the committee for next year’s event, please email Peggy Callahan at [email protected]. Congratula-tions to this year’s first place winners—Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel!!!! My Heart-breaker’s—I am so proud them!!

Da-dah—sound the trumpets—a new

concept for this month’s October 17 membership meeting. (Maybe I should said a previous event adapted to a new, improved format.) Announcing . . . Allied Café! There’ll be information on the latest trends, products, technology, and services, plus door prizes, food, and a chance to treat your entire team to an Association event! It starts at 10 am and will be open until 2pm. So if you have scheduling conflicts, this will let you assign your staff different times to attend so everyone isn’t out of the property at the same time. Our host for Allied Café is the Doubletree East, 5069 Sanderlin.

Tickets are complimentary so please email Peggy your attendees so she can work her magic and get them to you, or have them at will call.

It’s that time of year again, election time. Just what you wanted to hear—more election info. Wayne Tabor (Chairman of the Board) and the nominating com-mittee are working hard on the slate of board officers for 2013 and will have their recommendations available

at the Allied Café. So if you’re interested in serving on the board, there are only a few more days to get on this year’s slate. We’ll have the recommended nominations available at the Allied Café. Those interested, please contact Wayne at [email protected] as soon as possible. If your interest is serving on a committee, please contact Peggy Callahan at [email protected]. We have several committees and new faces and ideas are always appreciated and welcomed.

In closing, I would like to say I ap-preciate each member’s membership and support. I think that we have a very solid and successful association, and it is because of each of you. Thankya, thankya, thankya very much.

Till next month, same time, same place …
