    Eleven o’clock in the morning

Today we celebrate Pentecost, often known as the church’s “birthday.” The name Pentecost comes from the Greek for “fiftieth day.” Its origins relate to the Jewish harvest festival of Shavuot, which commemorates God’s giving of the law on Mt. Sinai. Pentecost marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples in Jerusalem fifty days after Easter. We celebrate today with a festive children’s procession.

  • The congregation is asked to remain prayerfully or meditatively silent during the prelude. The Chapel welcomes families with children; if at any time during the service your child needs a place for active play, please utilize the nursery in the basement of Baldwin.

Have mercy on us, O God. Transform our timid lives by the power of your Spirit, and fill us with a flaming desire to be your faithful people, doing your will for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
