Service Learning Engagement
In a nutshell…
Central College Partnerships
Benefits for Iowa UNA• Unlike student internships, faculty provide the
wealth of project oversight in place of the non-profit organization.
• Leaving project parameters open to student interpretation often results in creative programming.
• Establishes potential pipeline for student internships and volunteers.
• Provides UNA presence in communities our office is incapable of consistently engaging.
• Large window of opportunity. Pella, Iowa is one of eight cities nationally with a UNA chapter in development.
Benefits for participating students• Researching and subsequently publicly
advocating for worthwhile humanitarian causes can highly influence student perspectives on the interconnectedness of the world surrounding us. Can alter personal habits with the greater good in mind.
• In service learning instances of student fundraisers for a UN humanitarian campaign, students realize their role as instruments of positive change. Remarkably rewarding.
• Students are provided access to UNA staff, UN resources and UNA members in the community producing new branches of networking.
