My Definition of Service Learning

• Service Learning to me is, being educated through helping others. One learns a lot when they see first hand what others less fortunate live like. For Service Learning one can also pick up trash off the side of the road, volunteer for a car wash, or any other opportunity to arise that is helping the community in some way.

Benefits of Service Learning

• I learned more than I expected through Service Learning. I went in with a bad attitude, because I really did not want to pick up trash off the side of the road. I figured that was for criminals, not for successful college students. I thoroughly enjoyed the Fall Ball and the Relay for Life as well. I found out how much I love being there for people that are less fortunate than me. I also learned not to litter!

• Working at the Fall Ball was the most fun, in my eyes. Watching these people older than me, light up at the sheer sight of our faces was amazing. I learned that just being who you are is the only way to live. No matter their disability, they still seemed like they loved life. Many of us teenagers think we have a “tough” life, but nothing compares to what those strong individuals go through everyday of their lives.
