People: The Lord will be our everlasting light, and our days of

sorrow will end.

Hymn of Praise #66 “We Three Kings of Orient Are”

Prayer of Confession

Eternal Light, shine in our hearts. Eternal Goodness, deliver us

from evil. Eternal Power, be our support. Eternal Wisdom, scatter

the shadows of our ignorance. Eternal Compassion, have mercy on

us, that with heart and mind and soul and strength we may seek

your face and be brought by your infinite mercy to the Holy Pres-

ence, through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Hear now our silent

prayers…. Amen.

Responsive Assurance of Forgiveness (from John 1:9, 12-16)

Leader: “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the

world. To all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave

power to become children of God.”

People: “We have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son,

full of grace and truth…. From his fullness we have all

received, grace upon grace.”

All: In Jesus Christ, the Light that shines in the darkness, the

Light the darkness cannot overcome, we are forgiven.

Thanks be to God!
