Are you properly sorting your waste at city facilities?

Over the past few years the City of Burlington, with the support of Halton Region, has signifi cantly increased the options for properly sorting your waste at several of our public spaces.

Unfortunately, waste audits done at Tansley Woods Community Centre and Appleby Ice Cen-tre showed high contamination rates (the percent-age of material that should not be in a particular container). The contamination rate ranged from 17 per cent to 66 per cent at Tansley and from 12 per cent to 59 per cent at Appleby.

We need your help to properly dispose of your waste.

Which items go where?

• Commonly misplaced items are listed below along with where they should be disposed:

• Hot beverage/coffee cups, sleeves and drink trays – GreenCart

• Coffee and drink lids (no straws) – Blue Box

• Plastic plates, cups and plastic take-out containers – Blue Box

• Snack and yogurt containers (fi lm and foil removed) – Blue Box

• Food waste and compostable papers (drink trays, paper plates and cups, tis-sue, paper towels, paper food packaging, paper bags) - GreenCart

• Styrofoam, plastic cutlery, candy wrap-pers - Garbage

With your help, we can increase waste diversion in our public facilities. For more information about how to properly dispose of your waste, please visit www.halton.ca/waste. For information about City of Burlington environmental initiatives, please visit www.burlington.ca/environment.
