Miracles of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark There is something fascinating in the Gospel of Mark. The miracle stories take up almost one third of the whole Gospel…more than the Passion!! The stories include healings, exorcisms, nature miracles and one resuscitation from death. Mark calls them “mighty works.” All but three of them happen before Jesus makes his first passion prediction. In this Mark is helping us, the readers of the Gospel, understand the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection. All of Jesus’ mighty works help people understand that Jesus is more powerful than, evil, sickness, he has control of the natural world and he is even stronger than death. Over and over again, Jesus’ mighty works are used to help the poor, sick, possessed even the dying. God has sent his son to us as a sign of his great love and to fulfill his promise he made with us with Abraham and on until today. God breaks into human history with the birth of his son, Jesus brings us into the beginning of a new era. An era where God is in human flesh and form. We can see and touch Jesus. Jesus is God in the flesh, the Incarnation. This is what we have celebrated at Christmas. After a few weeks of Ordinary Time, we will enter into Lent and Easter where Jesus shows us how he is with us always and everywhere in our brothers and sisters, or the whole human family. The one who works great works for us, is about to show us the full meaning of his life. Let’s try to be attentive to the miracles in Mark and how they show us the true power of God in our world. How can we be people who help make the merciful power of God evermore visible in our own homes, schools, at work and in our civic community? Fr. Lawrence

Please join us on: Feb. 7, 2018 (Wednesday) 7:15 PM SJE Church Wild Goose Series Segment 13: The Spirit’s Gives Witness “We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit that God has given to those who obey him” - Acts 5:32 The Holy Spirit gives witness to Jesus. We are not able to fully understand who Jesus is on our own strength, intellect, and power. The Holy Spirit aids us in moving from our limited intellectual perception of who Christ is and what he has done for us to a life-changing understanding of Christ. It is also the Holy Spirit that inspires us to give witness to Christ by our words and actions. This segment will look at how we are best able to cooperate with the Holy Spirit so that we may see Jesus as he is and give witness to him. Open to ALL. Universal: Say “No” to Corruption That those who have material, political or spiritual power may resist any lure of corruption.

Early identification can help to prevent long-term effects . . . Knowing how to identify potential signs of abuse and neglect can help parents and other adults take action more quickly and help prevent further abuse. Adults who spend a lot of time with kids – parents, teachers, family members – should be on the lookout, as children who have suffered from abuse may experience guilt, anxiety, learning difficulties, aggression or self-destructive behaviors.
