What’s wrong?


The thief comes only

to steal and kill and

destroy; I have come

that they may have life,

and have it to the full.

Colossians 2:6-196-8 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.


9-12 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.


13-15 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.


16-18 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.


19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

Asceticism:

Martin Luther -would lie naked in his cell all night long in the bitter cold and he beat his body and tortured himself, trying to find peace of heart.


Sabbath:

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”


Is Jesus Christ...enough for you?

Inside of you!


Spurgeon on ChristAll the attributes of Christ, as God and man...he has made...subservient to our salvation. His omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, immutability and infallibility, are all combined for our defence. Arise, believer, and behold the Lord Jesus yoking the whole of his divine Godhead to the chariot of salvation! How vast his grace, how firm his faithfulness, how unswerving his immutability, how infinite his power, how limitless his knowledge!


All these are by the Lord Jesus made the pillars of the temple of salvation...The fathomless love of the Saviour's heart is every drop of it ours; every sinew in the arm of might, every jewel in the crown of majesty, the immensity of divine knowledge, and the sternness of divine justice, all are ours, and shall be employed for us. The whole of Christ, in his adorable character as the Son of God, is by himself made over to us most richly to enjoy.


His wisdom is our direction, his knowledge our instruction, his power our protection, his justice our surety, his love our comfort, his mercy our solace, and his immutability our trust...Oh! how sweet thus to behold Jesus, and to call upon him with the certain confidence that in seeking the interposition of his love or power, we are but asking for that which he has already faithfully promised.


Lie!God accepts us as we are, and there are many ways to him[All religions lead to God - it does not matter which route you choose we will all get there in the end]


Lie!We have the freedom of choice to be who we want and to do what we want[you were made by and for God - honour him, know him, and will answer to him - he gives you life in all its fulness - morality, direction, purpose all go astray without God as the reference point]


Lie!Marriage can be between any two people, and it lasts only as long as both are happy[Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman - Christians should not marry non-Christians]


Lie!We’ll live in harmony if we tolerate the beliefs of others[]


Lie!Christian beliefs are a private matter[The Christian faith should remain private and internal; it should not be applied to culture because of its absolutist, intolerant message and its history of oppressing those who disagree]


Lie!Entertainment is a vehicle to help us fulfill personal desires[We need larger doses of entertainment that break useless taboos, accompanied by advertising of products that stimulate our primary desire for self-fulfillment in the pleasures in life—sex, possessions, and power]


Lie! Entertainment...[The media are the primary conduits of the destructive messages about the person, the family, and society. They mold and dictate our views of what is acceptable in popular culture, and they shape reality to fit a Darwinist-postmodern worldview. They manipulate us by emphasizing image over authenticity and self-indulgence over self-sacrifice, and they desensitize us to exploitative sex and violence.]


Lie! Entertainment...Mark Harris comments “the majority of studio movies are aimed” at men under 25, whom, evidence suggests, will watch anything “as long as it’s spiked with the proper set of stimulants.” If you’re not an immature male, there’s increasingly little for you to see at the movies.
