I am delighted to write on behalf of Mr. Klaus Pellicer in support of his application.

During Mr. Pellicer fourth year at Institut Químic de Sarrià – Universitat Ramón Llull (IQS-URL, degree in Chemistry) I was his professor in a subject called “Experimentation in Chemistry II”. This subject consists in different lectures and laboratory demonstrations that must be performed during two semesters three hours every day. Once each demonstration is completed, students must prepare a full report showing their results and conclusions. It is worth to mention that half of the reports should be in a foreign language (English) and students should find bibliographic data to support their results (for example using scientific search tools like SciFinder or websites of scientific literature like sciencedirect.com, American Chemical Society or Springer). All academic concepts explored in the laboratory demonstrations are related to subjects that must be studied simultaneously during the year: Advanced Physical Chemistry, Advanced Organic Chemistry, Advanced Inorganic Chemistry, Structure Determination and Material Science and Engineering.

From the beginning, Mr. Pellicer was highly motivated to learn as much as he could and performed to his best capabilities. He attended to all the lectures where he frequently participated asking questions and giving some knowledge. I should mention that Mr. Pellicer applied the knowledge he learned through the whole courses and showed his abilities in learning techniques and developing good laboratory demonstrations. During this time, he showed his ability to work with colleagues, leadership, to solve problems and to discuss the results with the supervisors as well as presenting his results in front of a professor’s committee, always accepting constructive criticism with maturity.
